My new Santana Brazilian has a trem problem. After a light touch of the trem arm, the trem isn`t resting on the same pitch it had before the touch. (Strings are stretched and tuners tightened). So the starting point is never the same and it`s freakin` me out. Is this a knife edge problem? Solutions please?

Joern,
It could be...but there may be many other little things to sort out first. How clean is the knife edge? Does it look like there is oxidation on it? Another potential problem could be the nut. Sometimes strings get bound in the nut (sounds painful) and a little nut lube (hold back the jokes) like graphite or some aftermarket products in the slots cure that.

Yes, could be some tight nut slots or, is the trem floating parallel to the body, meaning: is the string tension equalized with the spring tension of the trem?

Are the bridge mounting screws setup correctly? If the bridge's knife edges aren't catching the grooves in the mounting screws, it could explain why the trem isn't working.

My first guess is that the nut is the problem. It seems there are some PRSi leaving the factory with poorly cut nut slots and it is affecting tuning stability.
My second guess is that the tremolo mounting screws are not set up properly.
