8 months off the forum and nothing seemed to have changed - till I came here. You guys have made truly impressive progress with your recording set ups and techniques.

Sad thing is I bought all the 24 bit audio interface stuff and installed Cubase SX 2 years ago but haven't got round to doing anything with it.

Main obstacle is how to get some good drum patterns going - advice anyone? And I guess I'll have to buy a bass - although I do have a MIDI keyboard to get me going. Hell I'm an IT guy I should be able to work this stuff out.

Right, going off to buy a mic stand and XLR cable........

Oh just distracted. Wherever it was your Avatar suggests that you've been somewhere quite different!!!

That's why I don't record as much, I can't be arsed with drums :(

I use a Roland DR770 but I can't be bothered to programme it :D

I have a DR770 as well... great drum machine for the price with great samples! But... programming it is a bear.

That's another reason I love loops... set themup MUCH MUCH faster then programming a beat box. And since it's a real drummer, it sounds more real then a beat box!

Aldwyn

But don't loops change pitch when you stretch or compress them to suit the tempo?

Groove Agent by Steinberg. FANTASTIC program with hundreds of beats, fills, drum kits etc. You can go to halftime at the poke of a virtual button, add a fill the same way. Change drumkits, patterns etc. on the fly while maintaining tempo. You could build your own patterns also. I love this thing...much easier to really use than any drum machine I've ever messed with. :D

Acidized drum loops will not change pitch when you stretch them to fit a particular BPM. BUT, they do start to sound funny, IMHO. I usually try and find suitable tracks in the BPM I am looking for to prevent this from happening!

Thanks guys. So many choices! I'll research the options you have suggested and see what fits. :)
