View Full Version : Where do you buy your amp parts?
Really, where? All the caps, resistors, diodes--whatever. Where's a good place to pick that stuff up?
One place NOT to buy stuff from is Ampwares. Slow, slow, slow, and no communication by email or phone. They really suck - I'm really wondering if I've been ripped off.
I have been referred to Antique Electric Supply, Mouser, and Hoffamn Amps, but don't have any personal experience.
I'm going to try Torres Engineering next.

Definitely Mouser Electronics for most of the common stuff (resistors, capacitors, etc.). Antique Electronic Supply and Angela Instruments have specialty things like tube sockets. I've also bought some parts from NBS Electronics (Lord Valve) - he's got all sorts of tubes, sockets, and very specialized stuff like Marshall knobs, capcans and things like that.
What about things like the power sockets on Fender amps?

Hi Hugh. I've restored probably a dozen tweed, brown, and blackface Fender amps in the last year and I either go to Doug Hoffman (hoffmanamps.com) or Mouser Electroic Supply (mouser.com). Doug is a one man operation basically but he is the fastest at shipping that I've found. And his prices are fair. If I'm in no hurry, say ordering a ton of resistors and two tons of caps I'll use Mouser. Mouse has a much larger inventory, but Doug has all the Fender stuff you'll need.
Thanks, I'll definitely check them both out.Hugh
Just to set the record straight, I finally got my order from Ampwares today, so they did not rip me off. It took 3 weeks, though, and I didn't get any communication that there was a hold up. I finally got through on the phone on Monday (after trying for many days) and the guy who answered told me my order was held up because of a back ordered item. I told him he needed to answer emails (I had sent many.) He was apologetic, and explained that they are a small outfit.
So make your own choice as to whether or not to get things from there.
