I have a confession to make. Over the last few years, with the various forums we have all been members of, I've formed an unfare opinion about a few of you.

I've read countless threads about people freaking out when they get a little ding on their guitars. I've always thought to myself "what's the big deal? Guitars are meant to be played. So what if they get a little scratched up?" I told myself I would never care if one of my prsi got a little mark on it.

Well, last week as my band was playing the Florida State Fair, I found out what I was made of. It was a bit windy, and as I turned toward the mic to sing, I noticed that the mic was falling in my direction. I managed to reach out and catch it, but not before it hit my trusty McGoldtop right above the neck pickup. I now have a nice little chunk of wood missing. And of course my reaction......I freaked out. I guess I really do belong on these forums.

I've gotten over it now, and I except my guitar's BattleScar as something that was bound to happen. But never again will I judge any of our members for being upset with a scratch on their guitar.

That's okay bro. You/we all work hard for our money, and when you spend that much on a guitar, and it looks that good, you just don't want to see it damaged, plain and simple.

There's something to be said for both broken in, battle scarred, vintage instruments, and something to be said for "trophy" guitars.

Welcome to the club. I am sorry about that lousy rite of initiation on your McGoldtop!

I am anal about all of my guitars...it is not a PRS thing...Of course, I am not crazy about door dings in my car either...who is?

Thanks for sharing. Even when it's just a ding, it's like a zit on a supermodel. :)

It's not a battlescar... consider it just a "love bump"... that what I do when ever I get a lil' ding on mine.

It's funny how some of the Gibson Historic owners do anything they can to scar and scrape up thier guitars! They even pay good money to have someone else do it!

I ain't much on getting my guitars beat up but somethings are just unavoidable.

I have seen the time that I would rather it been my guitar get hit than me. I have had drunks fall over and ram the mic right into my face. I could've sworn I lost a tooth before!

Dings and bumps do bother me, but it's not as bad when I do it. I can't bring myself to buy a guitar that already had an imperfection. Damn I'm anal!

It never fails. I get a ding usually on the first gig with a new guitar. I may not get another for years, but there's always one right away. The first or second gig with my blue SC Crackwood I got a ding on the corner near where the arm covers. It broke my heart, but IT HAPPENS. If you play the guitars, they'll not remain mint.

There are two types of guitars: Those that have, and those that will.

If you're a nancyboy glass case person, you are not subject to this rule.

I got a new ding on my CU24 the other day and it's a serious one. I was a little peeved for a while but then I thought of it as a battle scar and everything was OK! As long as it sounds good I'm happy.

I feel your pain. I remember a few months ago when my Custom Soapbar fell over and suffered a small ding on the headstock

Oh well . . . it's a keeper anyway :D

I was changing strings on one of my guitars when the phone rang. In a rush, I put it on a chair (standing up on the cushion) where I thought it was resting in a secure manner. A few seconds later...CRASH!!!! It fell right on it's face and hit the metal edge of a table and took a nice hunk of wood out of it near the toggle switch.

Oh well, now I really get off wailing on the thing...I really think that I play better on it!!! (Bet you'll do the same ;) )

The day I put a ding on my Diablo Eagle I'll die of a heart attack.

Well, no...but it WILL hurt!!http://forums.birdsandmoons.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
If you die like that please make sure I'll be on your testament, as a 30th anniversary owner brotherhood I'll surely take a great care of your Eagle :D:D

Last weekend I was playing a gig and taking off my TSE, forgetting that there was a projector screen right above me I slammed the headstock into the bottom of the screen (a large metal pole). I screamed out in horror (luckily this was during the sound check), but was relieved when I inspected it closely and found that there was not a scratch on it - the jolt did knock it out of tune a bit.

This was with a cheap, $450 Korean-made guitar. I can't imagine what I will be like when I have something more expensive someday.

To your credit...
Your story:
[live gig, outdoor show, thousands of screaming fans] "It was a bit windy, and as I turned toward the mic to sing, I noticed that the mic was falling in my direction. I managed to reach out and catch it, but not before it hit my trusty McGoldtop right above the neck pickup. "

My story:
(ref: CURO24 bought new just before new year's) I took the guitar to work to weigh it on the postage scale and show it to coworkers. I'm at my desk strumming a few chords along to a CD. I lean over to replay a track, guitar rolls forward and hits the desk with the top edge of the top horn. ba-ding. I was probably even wearing a tie. :o
