Media Player is not capable of converting MP3s to Wav files.

You'll need to either use an application designed to specifically do this or use an audio editing program such as Sonar, Cubase, Acid, SoundForge etc...with this functionality built in.

The latter can be spendy, but there are a bunch of shareware products out there that can probably do what you need. Which ones are decent though, I don't know...I have a couple of the full blown apps in my arsenal.

CDex (http://www.cdex.n3.net/) does a great job of converting creating MP3s and of converting MP3s back to WAV files. As for price, it's free. :)

LAME is another one, you need it and razorlame to really use it. LAME is the codec and razorlame is a GUI front end for LAME. Both are freeware

Nero burning software does it for you.

I use Cakewalk Pyro. Nice and easy to use and as Phil mentioned you can find many shareware apps including a free early issue of Pyro.

Musicmatch does it, too. I think it's the best free mp3 software out there, better than windows media....
