It was suggested to me that Led Zeppelins "Since I've been loving you" offered a lot of ingredients as a practice song. Licks over melodies and that sort of thing. Any suggestions of songs that offer a bit of everything that are moderately challanging for an aspiring R&B guitarist? Thanks

Neil Young is good, because alot of what he does is based on simple chords.

Thanks. Are there any particular songs that you recommend? I'm trying to get opinions on R&B/Rock type songs that offer chord progressions with melody lines that will help me see the fretboard better. I want to be more fluid at hearing and seeing chord changes and then being able to play melodies over them with less hesitation. Any feedback is appreciated.

He just put out a greatest hits disk thats good. The first song I learnded was "mainstreet" by Bob Segar. A great progression that goes from D, C, G, Em. And the solo isnt all that hard to nail either. Another is "More than a feeling" by Boston. It has a great arppegiated riff in G and D and the main chorus is Em, G, C, D. Hope this helps.

Learning all of one of the early to mid Led Zep disks is a good place to start. A few of the solos are a little tough and you might have to come back to them, but you'll learn a lot of the basic idioms of rock and electric blues in one easy package, plus some fun acoustic stuff.
