Just wondering if the monthly service fee is worth it ...

My S/O bought me one for my birthday last August, time restraints keep me from using it more, but I like it. If it's worth it to you, I guess would be a question of whether you would use the library of songs they offer, and it keeps getting bigger day by day.

I like it because right now I have no recording gear whatsoever, and I have no interface for guitar-cpu other than the guitar port, so that lets me jam along to whatever backing tracks/songs are avail on the web or that can be played in a computer.

I had it but I cancelled it.

I felt it was not worth it for me. I'm an old guy and didn't know most of the songs or bands. The ones I did know I felt that, for the money, I'd do just as well to play along with the CD.

The tones that they had available were excellent but still not worth the monthly fee.

Jas -

That is what I was sort of thinking ... worth the unit to play but not worth the monthly subscription.

PS: I am an old man too ... but like modern rock stuff ..... love the heavy guitar sounds .... for me its always been about the guitar sound. That disco era was a living hell for me !!! "If ya think I'm sexy" yada yada yada. Oh God.

I've had my subscription probably for a year or so, and while I don't use it that often (I haven't used it in the last month), I do enjoy it when I hook up the big monitors to the GP and jam away.

The best thing is to try it for a couple of months and see if you like it. You can always cancel it afterwards. (or go and record all the backing tracks and save them for later use).

I cancelled my sub as well. The harware is great, especially for jamming with CD's. If you want a superb subscription tool, with backing tracks, tabs, video tutorials etc, check out www.licklibrary.com (http://www.licklibrary.com). It think it's much better value then GPO.

I just purchased a GuitarPort since they dropped the price to $99 from $169 as of today. I don't plan on subscribing, though. I have used the GP software with a POD xt and like the idea of having a fairly simple headphone/PC recording setup.
