View Full Version : Ordered a new amp today ... Fender Blues Jr.
Well I was over at Booger Boys house today (Ted) to try out his amp as I wanted to buy something small to practice with. I had been looking at the Fender Blues Jr and as Ted has a multitude of amps, he said to come over and try it out.
I was really impressed with the sound so I've ordered me one from MF in blonde with the oxblood grill on it. Should be here in a couple of days... can't wait. It cost $369 and had to pay an extra $16 for shipping :(

My current practice amp that I keep upstairs in the office is a Fender Champion 110 (2 channel 25w solid state) which actually sounds really sweet if you keep the volume level below 3 and you don't use the gain channel. It sounds great with my HB, really really wonderful, but when ever I start to crank the volume it breaks up pretty horribly, and when I switch to the gain channel it just sounds like mud! I've tried various distortion pedals in front of it and they all sound bleh!
So, I'm looking forward to this new toy. Kewlness!!!
That's a great price. Who'd you order it from?

Very cool, Jo!

I ordered it from Musicians Friend
This blonde one is a special MF colour combination. The standard black one was $20 more. Go figure that one out.
Jo, what you didn't know is that Ted just wanted ANY reason to have you over, so he went out real quick and bought one right before you came over! :D
Just kidding, I used to play those when I worked at a Mars, nice amp!

I used to have a Blues Junior before I upgraded to Deluxe Reverb for more headroom, and finally to my current Traynor YCV 40T. The Blues Junior is a nice little amp for the price, especially for home use! Plus. I love the vintage look of the oxblood or vinyl.

JamieDarn it Jamie.... :( - I've already received the ship notification and tracking # so I guess it's too late.
Shame.. I should have said something a long time ago, as I've been eyeing them up for a few weeks. Thanks for the thought tho ;)
Congrats Jo! That is a GREAT amp! I borrowed one of these in the studio my band is working at recently and they sound wonderful! :D

Congrats on the new amp!
That little amp has plenty of volume to be more than just a practice amp too!

The Blues Jr. and it's non reverb predecessor, the Pro Jr., are SMOKIN' little amps.
Excellent choice Jo! Dude!

does the blues jr. have reverb on it??
i know my tweed pro jr. does not, and i sometimes add a Boss Digital Reverb pedal, and it makes it sound more lush. i also use it on the bassman. i'm not sure if the blues jr. does, but if reverb is your thing, this would be a good investment.

The Pro Jr only has volume and tone knobs on it doesn't it?
The Blues Jr can also be plugged into an ext. speaker, whereas the Pro Jr can't. For the $$'s the Blues Jr seems to be a much better package.

I thought they had free shipping on anything over $199 or something like that. $16 isn't too bad though. Nice looking amp!!

(i have a bassman anyways, so it's not exactly needed). And yes, the pro jr. only had volume and tone controls (it's all i need!)
i know you're gonna love the amp...i plug the tele into my pro jr. turn it up, and the results are just amazing!

I have had a Pro Jr. for 5 years and love this little amp. It just has a great tone (to my ears anyway). The Pro and Blues Jr's are some of the best dollar to tone investments out there.

Hey Jo what cab. can the Blues Jr run (2x12,4x12). Does it have enough juice to run a 4x12? I know nothing about the Blues Jr.

If anyone can clarify I'd sure appreciate that.

I ended up with a Celestion G10L (as used in the early Matchless cabs) in my Pro Junior and I'm lovin' it.
FWIW, the Pro Junior CAN drive an external cabinet (4X12 for example). Just disconnect the internal speaker and use that jack.
Jo, did you get your new toy yet? Hope so!Yup, it arrived. It's a bit brittle sounding at the moment tho' and apparently I have to wear in the speaker, if after a while that does no good then it'll be a speaker upgrade.
But for it's size, it sure is loud. :D

i can hear my pro. jr over a drummer, so i think the blues jr. shouldnt have a problem

It is possible to have both the BJ speaker and an external cabinet running together, using a Y splitter lead. The gurus over at the Fender Forum assure me that, although ohms are dropped to 4, the BJ can take it. Take a look at my post at:

Also the BJ + extension cabinet does look great, almost a mini Marshall stack.

Jo,
I've had a Blues Junior for 6 months now. I took it to a Forum meet (Rog's place) There were two Marshall stacks set up and my little baby in the middle. I happened to be playing when a group walked in - ALL the guys thought the sound was from the bigger amps - they were totally amazed at the sound it was belting out - and it was only on 4/5 with some O/D.
Through a PA it sounds even better!
Wonderful buy and great to take to small gigs/pubs.
Add a Tubescreamer and you really are in heaven. Best small amp by miles for Hendrix, SRV.
Enjoy.
