Alternative guitar..

I need some opinions. I want to get a guitar to use for Alternative music [Radiohead, Abandoned Pools]. I was thinking along the lines of a Fender Strat or Tele, but I'm not sure what. It doesn't even have to be a Fender, thats just one brand that screams alternative >:P So what do you guys and gals think?

I should probably add, I'm talking about STANDARD strats and teles, I want to keep the price range low, preferable under $400 because it takes a while to save up for an unemployed teenager x.X

Fender Jag?? Very alternative, always been not the easiest to play in my opinion, but great guitars with their own distinctive tone. Perhaps check out a 2nd hand one??

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Tommy Walter from Abandoned Pools had a Jagmaster at one point, but he destroyed it for some unknown reason o.O

But I'll definitley check those out. I'm also going to check out those limited edition Fender Jazzmasters they have @ $499 on musiciansfriend.
