I haven't seen a Driskill yet that was anything short of jaw-dropping, but Ariel's Eagle has to be one of my all-time favorites.
Just curious, what Serial # is Joe up to now?

Joe is in the mid 70's now. Mine new one will be #77 and is just waiting on the new sander to get up and running.

New Rule: whatever guitar Baba has not played yet, SOMEONE on the forum must ship it to him free of charge, with a return label, and a 30-day trial period, with no guarantee of return. Let's start with the Driskills.
Any takers? :D

My Diablo Eagle is serial #75. Joe chose that number for me because it's "magic".http://forums.birdsandmoons.com/forum/images/icons/icon12.gif. I believe him...the Eagle tone and playability is out of this world. And it ain't too ugly looking tho...http://forums.birdsandmoons.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
He can chose numbers ? Interesting, think he might book number 113 ? :)

Mine will be #88, although it is being made along side my buddy's Gavin's. I just requested #88 because Joe took #99 for himself. He better get that sander hooked up!

Hi Ariel. I've been drooling over my lovely TFT monitor for weeks now looking at your guitar on Joe's site..!! I think it's fantastic that Joe has a page showing it in development too, excellent stuff.
I'm currently considering a Driskill myself... I've been looking at various models from various luthiers but Driskill is right up there at the minute, ties first place with Scott Heatley in Canada. The ONE thing that might, just MIGHT, put me off the Driskill is the upper horn... I'm just not 100% sure it's not too pointy for my liking. However, living in the UK it's not exactly easy to check them out in person! A phone call to Joe is looming however, for a good chat..... perhaps tonight!!
Thanks, Quinn.

Hi Goof.
Yes, it's a close run thing here too.... Scott seems to be doing some great stuff. On his site there's a section in the gallery called 'custom' work, the Explorer style guitar in there looks soooo nice!!!
But for me, I think it's gonna be a Driskill.... not 110% decided yet, but if I leant any more in that direction I'd fall over!

Hi Ariel.
Yep, looking like I'm a-heading down the Driskill road.... mahogany/maple body + mahogany/rosewood neck or mah/map body and solid BRW neck!
I had a good chat with Joe on the phone last night and I've no doubt he can build the guitar I'm dreaming of... even if I can't decide some of the finer points of it in the short term! :D
I'll keep you posted with progress.
Quinn.

Hi, Quinn-Looks like you're headed in the right direction (West toward Fort Worth, Texas!). When you order your Driskill and you have some doubts about what will work, trust in Joe's judgement and you will not be disappointed. There were several aspects of mine that I wasn't sure about, so I asked Joe. I went with every one of his recommendations and he was 100% correct on everything!
The only down side about Joe is that he wasn't born in a set of triplets! Just imagine if he had two more brothers there to help him out!

The only down side about Joe is that he wasn't born in a set of triplets! Just imagine if he had two more brothers there to help him out!Ya know, the irony in that statement is that with everyone recommending Driskill guitars eventually he's gonna have year + backlogs...result? He might have to hire some other builders to help him(and so it begins)...or worse put a freeze on orders for a while.
I wouldn't imagine he can continue to work 18 hour days forever. I know, I know, he really is that dedicated...but also human...I think...:D
I've been debating (hard) a Driskill or a guitar by another builder (possibly serial #1 if I act quick).
If I go with the other builder obviously I'd snag #1 and yes, this other builder is a well-respected and incredible luthier not someone just starting out...but, continually hearing all this talk about Driskill I can see the inevitable on the horizon.

well, it's not one or the other really. It's a matter of which one is first...obviously, with the cost involved it would be a long gap between the two.

Hi Cherry. Yes, Thorn look awesome too.... I've not traditionally been a fan of that body shape, but the guitars look fantastic.
The issue of serial numbers doesn't bother me at all really... I can see how it would be a bonus if it came to re-selling the guitar and you had a really low number, especially if the person/company you bought it off had really taken off in the meantime. For me however, the guitar I get now is mine for keeps, we're gonna grow old together!!

That's the reason I am so anal when I look to buy a new guitar (but a serial #1 still would be a nice touch to a custom order)...my last purchase was in '96.
Thorn's are great guitars but they look way to close to a Santana for my taste. The other guitar I am considering is a Moser (Neal Moser designed just about every BC Rich model you've ever heard of)...it's design and features are at a totally different spectrum than the Driskill...TOTALLY opposite!
I really want both but have to settle for one right now.
