I've recently been getting back into Fender guitars a lot. About 7 or 8 years ago, I got a Japanese Strat in Olympic white. I played the frets off if it until got into Les Pauls and PRS. The guitar sat, seriously neglected in a corner of my dad's shop.

Fast foward until a few months back when I started getting into Fender's again. I went to retrieve the gutiar, and found the hardware rusted out, and the neck split. Bummer! So I decided to refinish the guitar, put a neck off of another strat I had laying around on it (a righty neck from a 1983 Elite model Strat), and clean all the rust off of the hardware. I did the refin myself. I was going for a Daphne blue, but there isn't enugh white in the paint I chose, and it came ou a bit too "Blink 182". I was going for a more classic, standard look, but I still like it:

I had so much fun doing all of this, I'm goin gto do a jazzmaster! I'm ordering everything from Warmoth this weekend. It will be a lefty of course. Purists, skip this part - I'm omiting all of those switches from my wiring scheme and goin with a simple setup: two SD Jazzmaster Vintage pickups, one tone, one volume, and a three way toggle. Everything besides that will be Fender spec.

Here is the guitar I'll be modeling mine after:

I can't wait to get started on this. Anybody else have any projects going on?

Nice Strat, that blue does have a vintage vibe.

I'm also doing a Jazzmaster a la Warmoth, using SD Quarter Pound pups.
Stock wiring, Mustang Warmoth special bridge, JM trem.

Ordered a swamp ash body finished in see-thru Mary Kaye white, tortoise guard, solid 1 pc Indian Rosewood neck, wide with SRV thick asymetric profile. Should have around end of March.

Surf's up!

Barry, your Jazzmaster specs sound killer!

I was thinking about my pickup selection. Do you think the Quarter punders or the Vintage pups would be closer to the pickups in the original Jazzmasters?

Here are my specs thus far:

Lefty Alder Jazzmaster body
Dakota Red
Tortise pickguard
SD Vintage pickups
Mustang bridge
Bird's Eye maple neck and fingerboard (not too sure about this, may go with a solid RW neck, or at least fingerboard)
White knobs, pickup covers

I can't wait to see your guitar finished!

Michael,

From all I've heard, the Vintages are close to the original Fender, and Angela Instruments carries the Fender '62 Reissue USA pups, supposed to be authentic also.

I'm not really going for original sound, want maximum expression with small tube amp (no pedals). I might play around with the tone circuit pots and capacitors too.

I look forward to seeing your Jazzmaster too! Looks like we're on the early edge of something-- first Einziger on the Guitar One cover discussed in another thread, now get a load of next Vintage Guitar magazine:

Honestly Einziger is my inspiration. He's my (modern music) guitar hero.

Ordering as soon as I make up my mind!

Since the headstock is blank, and I'm not trying to fool anyone, thought about gold-penning, in loving Fender-y script, "NoMaster," which also about sums up my abilities. :D
