Wish I had the cash.
Maybe you could do a flat trade of serial number #1 with him :D ;) .
I don't see how he's not going to regret this, but at least it's money going towards helping other people.
I stated it on TGP too, my guess is that it will sell for 800K.

Yeah, the $100k to $150k estimate seems a little conservative. I predict Paul Allen will be the one who ends up with it.

Man, I have conflicting emotions about Blackie going on the block.
He says, "it's become a part of me" yet he is going to sell it?
Doesn't make much sense to me.
But then again, the money IS going to a good cause, so it's hard to say how I feel.

Yea....doesn't make sense to me. With all the money that he's got, I'd just donate the value of the guitar if I were really serious about charity as he is.... Just keep it, Eric!

He may try to bid on it like he did Brownie 5 years ago. Putting it up for auction is a great way to publicize the event.

It may be a case like Apple Corps was with The Beatles. The clinic he opened may just be a money pit and he, being responsible for it's creation, is doing all he can to keep the doors open. Whether the treatment served is effective or not doesn't matter when it comes to running the facility. I hope that is not the case, but we may never know.
All I know is I wish Eric much success with the auction. He's showing his true quality by letting go of what I view as a huge personal sacrifice. He's a bigger man than me, I'm too attached to material things.

I heard recently that he will not perform Tears in Heaven and My Father's eyes anymore and maybe it is something to do with his wish to move on emotionally. He says it is hard to sing those songs now when he is SO happy and Blackie comes from a time he wishes to forget I suspect so why not do some good with it.

I think George's death also hit Eric hard. Maybe this is Eric's way of preparing while he still on the top of his game for the time when you don't take nothing with you but your soul. If so, it could be a very spiritual thing he is doing. Also, remember he isn't parting now with everything. He's keeping what he truly really needs to make music with. I could use to learn that lesson myself, frankly.

Well, if he's like us maybe it's just an excuse to go shopping for new guitars!
Seriously, he could make great music with most any guitar so I think these guitars have value as historic items. Why not pass them around a bit and use the money for a worthy cause?
