There ya go! I'm probably gonna have it sent off to get a little more paint taken off, 'cause i want the real rugged John Frusciante look to it.
Lemme kno what yall think!
-Cheers
Daniel that is a killer looking Strat! If you don't mind me asking, where are you sending it to get it relic'd further?

ummm, i'm not totally sure yet, i have several names...i think we're looking at this one guy to do it, but he's out of town right now, so we have yet to call him. I'll let you know who we decide upon, and i'll show ya the results!
I'll give ya a small review of my impressions of the guitar so far:
I think it's absolutely amazing. I was truly weary of the quality it would be, since i was able to compare two strats...one a true vintage, and another an older relic at rumble seat music. The old one clearly blew away the relic...the relic just didnt seem right. I was concerned about this, though i cannot afford a real pre-CBS strat with college around the corner, so i decided to keep the order going. Boy was i ever surprised when this arrived!!! It truly is the closest thing i have ever played to a real pre-CBS strat. The frets are small, which is just like how they were on the '64 strat i played. I also though i'd be impressed by the aging process in the tuners and such, but it's the guitars finish that really got me. It's faded in just the perfect way...something i could never replicate without years of playing. I'm not sure if the pictures can capture this...but trust me on it ;). The action on the guitar was perfect right out of the box. I might need a little getting used to the neck, since it's much thinner than the one on my Nocaster.
Well, that's it for now, i'm kinda in school right now, so i gotta run. Thanks for all of the compliments!
cheers

nice! i've been seriously looking at getting a '60 relic Strat in olympic white. there are a couple sweet ones on the internet that i've been eying. i can't wait to get one, but i've gotta decide between that, a '57 RI goldtop Les Paul, another PRS, a Thorn, a Driskill, etc.... life is full of important decisions.

Congrats, Dan O! I have a relic '60 Strat (from the coveted "Cunetto era") and it is an absolutely killer Strat, every bit the equal of most vintage Strats I've played and heard, so I know the feeling. Great stuff!

well, i have a '57 RI goldtop, an ES-335, a '99 Custom 24, a '02 Custom 22, and two ESP's...
...and i havent touched any of them in a looong time. It's all fender in my book. In fact, we're even looking at a '60s Tele custom to enhance the collection. IMO, the best out there. :dude:

Dude, that's beautiful. Good on ya!
With the nitro finish, it'll wear quite a bit the more you play it.
That's what I'd do - just play the crap out of it and make every wear spot, ding, dent, beer stain all mine!
You get more of the 'Leo' if you put your sweat into it!;)
Congratulations!

Gentlemen ...
I played Dan O's strat (yeah yeah ... I am the old man ... ) and its the finish on the body and the feel on the neck that is amazing. If you put a real pre-CBS in my hands and then the relic, I could not tell the difference. Even the tone. The finish seems to be weathered somehow ... I can't describe it. The pictures look shiny new but it really is not. It looks like its 40 years old! (wish I were).
I stopped at GC in Buffalo, and then in Rochester on my way home from Toronto this evening. The Rochester store had a 57 relic in stock. I did not like the sticky neck at all. But as far as tone, I put it thru a Mesa Rectoverb (in the noise room) and then a PRS Custom 24. The PRS had a little more power, but the Fender can do the drop-D stuff just as good. But with the Strat, you can get the coveted SRV tones out of it .... if you are into the blues.
You guys need to A/B these relics. I've been buying the PRS's and while they are beautiful guitars, the guys at HOG have been saying "just play Fenders Dude" ... cool.
PRS's are nice .. relics are too.
