How long did it take you to start seeing the fruits of your labor if it all? I've noticed that the warm-up portion has done a lot for my precision and flexibility after a few weeks.

Thanks.Yep Instructional. It's titled John Petrucci Rock Discipline. It's pretty cool, not only does he break down exercises but it includes a booklet with eveything both notated and tabbed out.

Phil,

I started the Rock Discipline tape (RD) about five years ago. Back then I was practicing an hour a day, four days a week. I would say that within the first few weeks I noticed a positive difference in my skill level. For example:

- My legato phasing had become smoother
- My alternate picking was cleaner
- My knowlegde of the fret board had increased exponentially
- I had an overall increase in speed and dexterity

After several months of RD I had a massive change in my life and my practice time became limited. But I had already improved leaps and bounds and I was pretty happy with my new found confidence.

Thanks to RD, I began using a metronome for all of my practices. As a result my sense of timing improved dramatically. Before RD my fast runs were sort of without any real timing. I just played the motes as fast as I could. After RD I could choose the timing of my runs - 16th notes, 32nd notes, 16th note triplets, etc. - and even mix them up on the fly.

I could go on and on, the RD tape made such a big difference for me. I still think about going back on plan but my time is so limited.

Cool Andrew!

It shows me the light at the end of the tunnel! I have always thought your playing was as smooth as butter and consistently "in-time". Your feedback was great.

So far, I have been really impressed with the course and it has been a great value IMO. Like both you and the title have stated...it is a discipline! There is no way around that. Well, I'm back off to the woodshed before some shut-eye.

I got this thing many moons ago when it was first released on VHS tape. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to improve their technical skills as a player.
