Hi Guys I'm going to be in San Fran for 2 wks, any good guitar stores to check out. I was there a few months ago, and didn't find any downtown. I'll be in Union Square area so I don't fancy going to very far unless the BART can take me easily. THanks!
It's a haul but it's a nice haul out to Eric Shoenberg's in Tiburon. Acoustics only but he's got some amazing stuff. Nice guy too.

Can't remember the address, but Rocker guitars is pretty cool. Lots of interesting stuff.
Another long haul, but in Redwood city is Gelb music.they got all the cool stuff to have: Anderson, boogie, Fuchs, etc. etc. etc.
There should be some other funky stuff around too. New Hard Rock Cafe down on Pier 39 ( only open about 6 months or so now if I recall correctly) and a new Hooters on fishermans wharf.

Thanks, I was in San Fran a couple of months ago. I go there quite often. Ummm, I don't see myself going to hooters and the wharf is for seals and tourists :)

I'll also second Gelb; was just there tonight (usual night). They have the new floyd guitars. Nicely made, but the 80s are over. I think you can take Caltrains to get to Redwood City.
Rocker guitars is in the city, on Howard as I recall. It's a couple of blocks from Guitar Center on Mission.
I work in San Francisco, right at Market and Embarcadero. Drop me a line when you are in town!

guitar center is at 9th and mission, its a newer store, small, cramped, but they usually have some PRSi there as well as some boogie equipment.
K and K music - dang I lived there 9 years ago - is on sutter I believe.

Hi JDA, cool, I'm staying at the Westin St-Francis in Union Square. I'm at the orthopaedic surgeons meeting. So my days are really packed. I don't know if I can get out. I had a break at lunch and went to check out rocker guitars, but its closed on Mondays! The GC at Mission was small and they had a SC on clearance at 1899$. Other than that no bargins. THey had a nice nekkid custom. It was so hot today, and having walked 10 blocks in my suit, was not wise. They had some nice new 2004 taylors and one nice used LP standard. Other than that, its small! I will be checking my email, so JDA let me know what works for you and I'll let you know if we can do something.
Sorry to hijack this thread momentarily...
Two things happened to me at the St Francis where I was staying as a 14 year old in 1967:
1) I vomited in the men's room near the lobby, having sprinted 2 blocks from the taxi bearing my parents, sisters and me.
2) I saw Richard Nixon coming down the steps, going into a taxi.
Incidentally, these were two independent events in case anyone thought otherwise but I thought the St Francis angle was interesting.
Maybe not.

Oh JAS, 1967, I wasn't even born.

Well then, Doc, perhaps some respect for your elders is in order...
I spent that summer learning the Sgt. Pepper's album on a ukelele. "Fixing a Hole" sounded pretty cool on 4 strings. Speaking of which, George came to SF that summer and played his guitar for the hippies in GG Park. But I didn't see him - just Nixon.
