Well here's a track that I played once just to get done and back to work on some home projects. The backing guitar is the Singlecut while the first part of the song is a solo with the BLE and the second part is the ME. As usual to cover up my playing abilities the soloing is done with heavier effects. So I'll be interested if anyone can hear the difference. The cleaner tones will definitely accentuate the difference. Both guitars have the 9 guage strings on them.
Hope this helps those who are curious although each individual guitar does sound different. Personally I can recognize the differences but some folks may not...I guess we'll see.

Oh yeah, both guitars use the neck pickups unsplit.

I'm awfully curious about which guitar you think has more sustain. I'm in love with my BLE McCarty - the way it resonates a note or a chord over long, long sustains, holding onto the 'sweet' frequencies as the others fade - and I find it hard to imagine that the ME could improve on this very much, but then again I haven't had a chance to play one!
What do you think?
Incidentally, I can hear the difference between the two guitars, but it sounds like pickups to me - the ME is more scooped/Santana/Dragon II-y or however you want to qualify the difference between the mids of the McCarty's PAF-alikes and the mids of the ME. Writing about tone always gets me stuck :)

Exactly, the tone is really subjective and with the heavy effects it's harder to judge the two guitars different sounds. In person, I'm reaching for the ME every time...I can hear and feel the difference. In my opinion it doesn't make the BLE anything less than great....I loved it when I got it. But sadly, I'm trying to figure out what I can sell to get an ME with a trem too...that's how much I like them.
I think the my ME clearly sustains more than my BLE at higher volumes and in sweeter frequencies. All that said, the difference is subtle and subjective as with any guitar issue. Your BLE could sustain longer than all of my guitars. In general though I think most PRSi sustain really well across the board (trem and stoptails).

Also, the solo from the beginning to middle of the song is the BLE and the solo from the middle to the end is the ME. Sorry the transition is sort of seamless...the wonders of digital recording.

Dude that sounds awesome. I can't tell the difference between the guitars though. What effects/amps are you using?

Clean tones would show more differences but as it stands it still sound like a difference in pups so far.

Thanks, I'm a little embarrassed with a couple notes being out of key but I was working fast. Anyway the setup is just the guitar into a Pod Pro direct to a Roland Digital Recorder. I run the output to my PC's sound card and record. The POD Pro is really awesome.

I won't argue that the pickups contribute. I also think the brazilian makes a difference and other elements make a difference too. I need to do a clean compare so you can really here the difference...it's really evident on the split tones.
