If anyone is using an Avalon 737sp for recording an acoustic, could you tell me what your setting are that seem to work? I've used the ones in the manual and they seem to degrade the tone from just using the unit to power the mic.
For home recording I'm using a Soundelux U195.
Thanks in advance,

It really should be set up differently for each mic.
If it sounds better with the compressor and whatever other junk off, then use lighter settings of compression, or keep it off.
Set it by ear. This may take some experimentation, but it's the only way to go.

You know, when I chime in with 'what Les said' it carries a lot less weight than when Les chimes in with 'what Chiba said', but I'll say it nonetheless - 'what Les said' :)
One thing I found that helped me 'figure out' pre/comp settings was to have a good set of headphones and a friend playing the guitar across the room while you futz with mic placement and pre/comp settings.

Thanks Les, and Chiba
