My parents are going on a trip round Texas next April and will be spending 3 days in Austin, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some names of good bars/venues to visit to see some good live music ? Bear in mind my parents are 60+ so nothing too rowdy :D, just good quality music and nice people!

thanks!

Threadgills comes to mind. Good Texas flavor, food, and occasionally music. Anywhere downtown on 6th is capable of producing some great music, but it is packed with college kids on Friday and Saturday. However, it is quite a spectacle and should be observed. Austin is rather famous for 6th street. Antone's is downtown, also, and probably needs no introductions.

Therefore....

Everything to do would be right downtown and within a few blocks. April will be nice weather, but still going to be hot for some Brits! I'd advise stocking up on some sunscreen when they get here.

My favorite city here in Texas!

(I live about 3 hours south on the beach in Corpus Christi)

Well, for sure the Broken Spoke and the Continental Club. Plus anywhere Redd Volkaert is playing. As Leroy4403 said Threadgill's is a good call for eating+ music, although I prefer the north location, partly because it's the original and partly because it's closer to my house. I dunno about 6th St though. I might steer you that way, your parents not so much.
You can start some research here

April is a GREAT time to come to Austin; the weather should be perfect.

Cheers,

I love music in Austin! If they are lucky....they could catch Redd Volkaert at the Continental Club...maybe check if Walt Wilkins is in town (if they like country).

Eric Tessmer is a really good blues dude, plays (or used to) a lot on 6th st.

I'd agree with pretty much everything skypup says, I'm not an Austinite, but spend a little time there every year on business.

6th street can be a bit intense at times...but fun to "see".

Hope they have a great time!
