Up to 16" here in Bmore over the next 24. At least that's what they're telling us. If so, new PRS shipments may be slow for a couple of days!

Local forecast says we should get about 8 to 12 here in Connecticut late Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning.

That means no Sunday morning meeting, and possibly no work Sunday afternoon and evening if things aren't cleared up by 4 PM Sunday afternoon.

(Man, I hate calling the boss at 2 PM telling him I can't get out of the driveway because our driveway service hasn't cleared us out yet. ;))

And yes, I let the service clear the driveway. I'm no fool...:p

I was supposed to drive from Brooklyn down to Baltimore Saturday morning. Instead, I left Friday after work. Glad I did, there's already a couple inches on the ground here in Baltimore and getting stuck on 95 in a snow storm is not my idea of fun!

Looks like we have 8-9" on the ground already, with no end in sight! I'm going to fire up the snow blower in an hour or so...

Getting ready to hop on the bobcat and plow the driveway...my driveway is about 1/4 mile long. Its about 14" deep right now and still coming down strong. Feel like I'm back in the mother country...Oooo Canada...

Looks like about 8" already with a revised forecast of 2 ft.! I only hope I can make it to the Ravens game tomorrow, which they already pushed up to 4:00 instead of 1:00.

Been out all morning with my boys. The 3 year old keeps getting stuck and falling over in the two foot drifts! He looks like Randy from "A Christmas Story" all packed into his snow suit!

We had 15" at my house in Fredericksburg this morning at 6am

Holy Smoke's!

We had 2" of snow in the UK On Friday and the whole bloody country has ground to a halt! We get severe weather warnings and told not to travel unless absolutely necessary! Went to work on Friday and half the staff did not make it in.

God knows what they would do if they got a proper dump of snow like you guys get! How long does it take them to clear the roads?

Spike!

2 inches? Holy Smokes is right! I shouldn't criticize, but the UK doesn't hardly ever get snow, and wouldn't know what to do if they did.

Does the UK ever get anything but cold rain during the winter? Personally, I would happily choose rain over snow and ice any day.

When it snows and we get a good foot or two of snow, it usually takes a day or two to properly clear the roads. The snow crews usually work while the snow is still coming down if the snowstorm occurs during the day when people are at work or need to be out on the roads. If the storm occurs overnight, snow crews usually can clear the main roads first and then the side roads where more people live as they work. In case of a really bad storm, it may take up to 3 days to clear the roads so repair crews can work to repair power outages.

About 5 years ago back in 2004, we had what we call a Nor'easter storm that dumped 3 and a half feet of snow, and then we had freezing rain. (A Nor'easter is when a storm comes up the east coast of the USA and wraps around the Northeast USA and stalls off-coast, dumping all its energy in the form of snow and ice.) With this storm, we lost electrical power for 4 days. We had to eat everything in the fridge and freezer that would have spoiled because of no electricity.

That reminds me, I have to go out to clean out the vents of my barbecue gas grill so it will work in case we lose power. Also remind me to buy large bottles of water for drinking and toilet needs.

Trust me, when a storm hits, everybody needs to be prepared. If you're not prepared, you lose big time.

To be prepared, there are things they make called "snow tires." You might need to look them up....:p

Well over a foot here. I spent 3 hours snow blowing the driveway and digging out my daughter's car and we already have another 2-3 " on the areas I cleared...

Welcome to Iowa! :)

We had ours a week and a half ago - Tue, Wed, and Thu - only 14", but with sustained 35 mph winds.

Tried to finish digging out the drive this morning - broke a shovel on one drift.

Wife told me, "Maybe you should get a snowblower, instead of another d@mn guitar." Yeah, right - like that's gonna happen.

Just settle in and chill, guys - that's what we did out here in Tundra south.

the one time it's nice to be in Hampton Roads, the snow fell south, west and north of us, a foot or more in some places. We got mostly rain in Hampton since last night, it's just cloudy right now but coming down heavily just up the expressway.

We're supposed to be driving through Virginia on I-81 and I-64 (towards Richmond) Monday and Tuesday heading to Southern Maryland. I'm hoping the main roads are cleared by then, but that there is still snow on the ground for the kids to play in when we get there.

She clearly doesn't understand - you can get a snowblower AND another d@mn guitar, just not as expensive a d@mn guitar. I think my snowblower was $500 - and worth every penny because I can still move after clearing a big snowfall.

Seven inches here - at 3 PM, and we were supposed to have two to five by tom'w morning.

You can keep your earthquakes and terrible traffic. Snow lasts only 3 or 4 months per year in the Northeast. And I can get to work on snowy days in less than 25 minutes, when it usually only takes 10 on normal days.

If the work parking lot isn't plowed out by 4 PM Sunday, the boss may say don't bother coming in to work. I can dig myself out if the snow stops 2 hours before I have to go to work. If the driveway plowing service plows us out by midnight late Sunday night, I'm happy. If the service doesn't plow us out, I have a problem getting back up the driveway, and I can't park on the street (town ordinance).

Since we won't know when the snow will stop, all I can do is call work about 1 PM and ask if the parking lot has been plowed. I can always use the time between 1 PM and 3:30 digging out in case the boss calls back to say the lot's been cleared.

Unfortunately, we are on the tail end of the driveway service's plowing route, so any help we get will likely be after I've cleared my side of the driveway

EDIT: I just got a call from our congregation elder saying that our Sunday morning meeting has been cancelled, and that the Tuesday the 22nd meeting will be used to cover our Sunday discussion. My 5 minute public talk I had worked on for the past two weeks has been cancelled. (I was really looking forward to giving my 2nd public talk. :()

I'm beat, physically; Shoveled the driveway three times, probably 15" overall; When I wake up in the am, there will likely be another 8"+ to shovel; Can't even tell the paths that were cleared off the deck as the drifts have covered everything over on several occasions; The big dig will be the foot of the driveway where the plows have been through, and the mailbox will be a killer;

I wonder if the Bears will make it to the game :)

Well it has finally stopped snowing here...time to gear up and get out there with the snow blower. Hey...at least it will be white for Christmas this year!

Got my walkways around the house (and to the hot tub) done (twice).
On Sunday, I cleared a narrow path down to the street (the dog loves the snow, but it is well over his head).
And...., last night I cleared out a couple of "parking spaces" in front of the mailbox, so the postman can, hopefully deliver mail today.
It's gonna take me all day to shovel out the driveway, but that's what I have to do today (Monday).
-Love to have a snow blower, but it would probably shoot half of my gravel away....

John,

Try this recipe on for size after you've been shoveling out snow...

Hot Whiskey Toddy
House & Garden Drink Guide | November 1973

Variants: Hot Brandy Toddy, Hot Rum Toddy
Yield: Serves 1

1 cube sugar
2 ounces bourbon, rum, rye, Scotch, Canadian, or blended whiskey
Slice lemon
Nutmeg

Put sugar in a mug or small tumbler and add enough water to dissolve. Add the whiskey, fill with boiling water and stir. Garnish with slice of lemon and grate a little nutmeg on top.

Or this one:

Hot Buttered Rum
House & Garden Drink Guide | November 1973

Yield: Serves 1

2 or 3 ounces dark rum
Twist lemon peel
Stick cinnamon
2 cloves
Sweet cider or water
1 tablespoon sweet butter
Nutmeg

Put the rum, lemon peel, cinnamon and cloves in a pewter tankard or any heavy 12-ounce mug that has been rinsed in very hot water to warm it. Heat the cider or water to the boiling point and pour into the spiced rum. Add the pat of butter and stir well. Grate a little nutmeg on top. A cube of sugar may be added as well.

Stay warm inside, too! :)

1963 apparently. It went on until march. The uk just isn't set up for dealing with much snow.
