As you may know, Edmonchuk (where Dino lives) has just broken all records for cold and was down to -46C for most of this week.

I received this charming little ditty and thought it should be re-labelled "Dino's Poem".....:

It's winter in Alberta
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At forty-six below.
Oh, how I love Canada
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I never could leave Canada
I'm froze to the friggin' ground!

Heh, heh. How is Dino, Ridge? We haven't heard from his frozen butt lately...:D

Richard,

That's great. It has been so cold here, it would freeze the balls off a brass monkey. It's all good, though, because it keeps the snow soft. Nothing like a 1000c.c. 2 stroke snowmobile to make a dull and mundane winter, into a living fantasy. However, I have been too busy to go for a spin, yet, but the snow is here.

It sure is freakin' cold, though. Goddamn.

Ah. well. You don't have to worry about that then, do you?

:p;)

Good to hear you're OK, pal. We had a rugby club dinner/jam session Saturday that you would have enjoyed......;)

You have heat and alcohol? Nuff said. Enjoy, Dino! :dude:

Actually, Bob, my furnace failed this week. I installed a new 95% high effiency furnace, with all new ducts etc, but I hadn't changed the filter since all the drywall. You guessed it, all the airflow was non-existent. The house temperature dropped to 62/63 degree for a couple days. I scurried like a mad man to insulate the basement walls and ceiling. Nothing, nada.

The next day, I had my daughter. The house temperature dropped to 59 degrees, or about 10 degrees celsius. We went to Mcdonald's for breakfast. When we got home, the furnace had stopped altogether. I worked it over in my head, parka and gloves for a long while before I thought of changing the filter. Yep, caked solid with drywall dust. I replaced. Nothing. So I called a furnace guy. He told me to try the thermostat. $150 bucks later, it was running. Really running. Crankin' out heat like nobodies business. The thermostat failed because I burned the damn thing out trying to get it to reach room temperature.

But yes, warm house. And alcohol, absolutely.

Cheers,

Dean

Dean,

Don't work too hard. Too much work only creates a powerful thirst. Trust me, I know this fact first-hand. To this day, I only drink a maximum of 3.5 oz. of alcohol per night, if that. Many other people drink substantially more. The reason I limit my alcohol and know my limits is because my ability to reason and use judgement is impaired when I drink more.

Dean, we all know you are working hard to build your house. When possible, take some time away from work and enjoy what you have done already. What I am saying is, lead a balanced life where work and play both find time for each other. You'll have less stress, suffer less pain, retain your sanity, and not require as much liquid fuel for your thirst.

The house and car runs on oil and gas fuel. The human body does not require excessive amounts of alcohol to perform its best. Don't make the same mistake we all make if we work too hard. Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor, you'll thank me later....:);):)

No worries, Bob,

All my treasure in the whole world is right here, next to me. She is almost 40"s tall. Almost 4 years old, now. Her, and a dog named Chuck, take away my thirst.

I joke around a lot, Bob. I don't drink too much. I do like to drink, though, and drinks like me. There was a time that I didn't drink. I was a teetotaler, and I am happy to have left that guy behind.

Good for you, Dean. Better to be just slightly dried out than totally wet behind the ears. ;) Enjoy your work, and have a good one this season. Be sure to stock up from your local grocer's for your holiday meal. You can expect to hear from me as the New Year approaches.

Here's one for you, Dino:

Dean,

I am sitting here listening to Zep's "Immigrant Song" and I thought of you. Got any chocolate morsel treats for us?

I plan on baking two apple pies with some Granny Smith's and some no-bake fudge. Remind me to buy some confectioner's sugar for the fudge. It's all good if we choose it to be. Only thing I won't be doing much of this year buying bottles of my favorite libation. Personally, it might make more sense to get this instead:

(Gratuitous butt-shot) :p

Why in the ##$%% do all things mechanical fail at the worst possible time?

Yeah, truly. I couldn't believe it. There I was, zipping up a winter coat and boots on a 4 year old in my own home at 40 below zero. I don't know what that translate to in american, but it is probably close to - 100.

It'll make her tough. Heck, there's no way around that with me, anyway. She'll chew nails by the time's 6.:D

Not mine, Bob. Knock on wood (firewood), all of my mechanical devices are up and running.
Dino's furnace went out in the bitter cold.

Thanks, John, I did see that part of the thread. IIRC Dean's furnace is working now...

It's a warm house, with lots of love and puppy pee, now.

Helmets here, for everyone, if you've got the nerve. I think I'm going to have to throw a BAM bash, here, one day.
