My cu24 is strung with 9's on at the moment, I'm thinking of putting some 10's on, maybe 9.5's.

I was wondering will there be any need for any adjustment with regards action and/or intonation?

Making a change from 9's to 9'5's or 10's should not require any adjustments, however it is always good to check just be on the safe side.

Go and put some 10's on ya big girls blouse :D

You'll get a much better tone, fuller sound ;)

I know a guy that uses 8's, what a girly :(

I wouldn't think so, I always go back and forth between 9.5's and 10's, no trouble at all.

Let's just remember the key phrase "Your mileage may vary". :)

Back to the subject at hand, in my experience a neck tweak might be necessary but might not.

Of course, I like to tweak relief and action, anyway. :)

It depends on how picky you are..............If it was me, I'd say yes..........I just went from 10's to 9's on my ce 24 maple top and had to adjust the trem springs and the truss rod........plays great now and just a little tweaking.......

At some point, somewhere, Scott Peterson had a great "setup guide". If someone has that, please post it. It'll tell you how to check your setup and make adjustments. Once you do it, it's quite easy.

If you have a floating trem, you'll need to re-balance it after a string gauge change.

If you have a floating trem, you'll need to re-balance it after a string gauge change. Correct, and I have a tip for you. If you go from 9s to 9.5s, then the tension will increase and the bridge will fall forward. To get it back to where it was, adjust the trem claw to bring it back *half way*. You can do this easily by observation. Then retuning the strings will bring it back the rest of the way. Saves a lot of guess work. Remember, for any bridge adjustment, half claw, half strings. Oh, and when you do adjust the strings, initially tweak all the tuners by the same amount, then check and repeat (homing in as you go), this saves you from fine tuning the first couple of strings only to find them completely out of whack by the time you've finished the rest of them.

PSX, can't remember if your CU24 has a trem or not, but when I strung my Santana III with 10's I had to adjust the tension on the springs.

went from 9 to 10's and the neck needed just a tiny little tweak the same for the intonation. The neck might have needed it anyway so maybe the adjustments were just due and not really related to changing. But I would think that a change would have some impact on the setup however slight it might be.

I don't know how relevant this is to the original question, as I have a stoptail, but I changed over from .009s to .0095s last week. Dropped the bridge posts 1/4 turn and tweaked the trussrod 1/8th righty/tighty. 'Tis perfect now

Hey, James Burton plays 7's on his Tele!! That's how he can do all those steel guitar type bends so easily!

(And it so happens I have one of his .007s in the case of my Telecaster! He gave it to my guitar teacher who used to play with him, and when I got my Tele, my teacher gave it to me as a joke!)

Oh, and my guitar teacher plays 8's on HIS Teles, for the very same reason... all those whole step bends in country playing!

Peace,
Aldwyn
