View Full Version : Does Cubase VST Support Winbdows XP Pro?
Pretty much what the title says.
I have VST on my home PC. I'm thinking of upgrading to a new PC w/ 1.3 gig and XP Pro. The VST box lists Windows 98 etc as viable software for the VST program. But since since VST was developed before the new generation of Windows, I can't tell if VST would work with XP.
Does anyone know if VST will work with XP Pro?
Thanks

I have it installed on my machine with XP Pro and had no problems. Its actually a bit more stable because the OS is more stable. I don't use it anymore since I upgraded to SX2 but it ran fine for me. You may need the very last patch installed to make it go though. I don't recall.
Thanks Architect. If you wander past this thread again would you mind telling me if you think SX2 is better enough, sound wise, over VST to justify the cost?
Appreciate your response.

It absolutely is. The new audio engine they did for SX2 is significantly improved. In my view it was worth the price of admission alone. The other improvements are pretty sweet too. There will be a learning curve if you are coming from VST5 but its not bad. Also, get the latest updates from Cubase's FTP site. They fix quite a few issues. You may want to give their forum a quick read too. You will hear lots of bitching about virtually everything, thats kind of the culture of that board unfortunately. There are issues with a few things "freeze" being one of them. I never use it personally. I have had zero issues that I didn't cuase myself with Cubase SX2. SX3 is out now. If you upgrade, you may want to go directly to that.
edit:
Be sure to check the hardware specs on SX2 or SX3. They are significantly higher than VST5
Thanks for your help. I'll check out SX3.

Cubase VST was perhaps my must frustrating software experience. It would crash my projects and lose me tracks constantly; I had to save every second I did anything... and even then it would lose things by corrupting files.
I came back to Cubase after SX; it has been rock solid and sounds better not by a little, but by a tremendous margin. It sounds on a par with Samplitude; that is saying something and is very high praise.
I *highly* recommend going to SX; you will never regret the move for a second.
