Some friends & I are starting up a tribute band to our idols: THE OUTFIELD. That's right, those Brit-pop/rockers from the mid- to late-80s with the catchy tunes, soaring vocal harmonies, and a string of top 10 songs.
Help us choose the name of the band!!! We're going with a song title for the name of the band...

Although I'm not familiar with the Outfield, I think Voices Of Babylon sounds like a killer band name - especially one with good vocal harmonies!
:dude:
I'm gonna break the rules at the polling booth and throw a combo name at ya:
61 seconds to Babylon
By the way, The Outfield, what an excellent choice of a band to tribute! I seem to remember that the guitarist played a 335 (well, in the videos anyway ;) ). I just thought that was so cool since it went against the "modded strat knockoff" grain of the day.

Wow, Chiba... you have someone who can sing that high? :)
I dig Nervous Alibi. If you don't use it, may I steal it? :)
Peace,
Aldwyn
Not I have that Outfield song going though my head: "Joese takes a vacation far a-way..."

Yeah, the guy doing the singing can get pretty far up there and has good control over his falsetto. A plus is that the other 3 of us all sing as well, so we should be able to get the vocal harmonies clicking. We're focusing on the first 3 Outfield albums - all pre-1990.
I've seen a lot of pictures of John Spinks with 335s, so I'm guessing that was his primary choice. Both times I saw them play, though, he was using a humbucker-loaded superstrat on stage.

Voices of Babylon sounds coolest to me, but kev has a good idea (61 seconds to Babylon). I'd vote for that if it were on the poll!

I'm with Peter Comboof the 2 or Voices to Babylon.
I must admit I'm not really hip to the outfield though.

I love The Outfield, too. But I vote for Long way from home. Kinda lends itself more to the baseball theme.

I like neverous Alibi and think it is a great name. But if this is a tribute band I think that voices of babylon makes much more sense.
Hey Chiba,
What a cool idea!!! The Outfield is one of those bands that when you hear them you can't help but sing or hum along.

I always thought "Play Deep" would be a cool name for an Outfield tribute band. Excellent choice, BTW, and you must do "Everytime You Cry"

Your names are tight, however I like the suggested 61 Seconds to Babylon best.
Here are a few other corny ideas for you:
Pop Fly
Left of Center (or Right of Center, depending on your political views)
The Bench Warmers
Bullpen
Three Strikes (if there's three of you)
Rounding Third
3 and 2 (if there are five of you)
Full Count
Extra Innings (you may have copywrite issues)
Bunt
Swing and a Miss
Strike Zone
Line Drive
The Minor League
Fast Ball
Throw the Heat
I think I could go on for days
