View Full Version : So..what's your current project?
HI guys/gals,
Things have been a little quite around this corner of the forum of late so I thought I'd ask what you all are up to recording wise...?
As for me, my band broke up a couple of weeks ago so I've got loads of time at the moment! I'm working on a few blues tracks at the moment (upbeat rocky stuff) but because I've had a pretty easy life, writing the lyrics is proving hard!! Can you be happy and play the blues??!!
So..what are you working on?

A couple of things for me...
One step came to an end recently when we found a drummer that we really like, that took some time. He's a really cool guy though... about the same level of ability as myself and our bassist, but very enthusiastic and seems to get a bit better every week. Just what we were looking for...
Also been working on an album of my own for about 3 years now. Should get round to beginning recording it this summer (which I think should take another year or so, all in all), though have to find one or two vocalists to handle one or two songs. Much as I love singing, it's in everyone's best interests if I keep it to a minimum in public...! :p
Also trying to finalise just what guitar I'm about to order. REALLY want to get it ordered this week so trying to gather as much info as possible.
Plenty of musical stuff happening for me, so Quinnn's a happy boy!

Mailnly three projects:
1) "thebluroom" a recording project with Marilyn Mack (an old cohort of mine). Pop/Rock/Trip type of stuff. My best work ever. About 1/2 done.
2) Only guitarist in an old school funk covers project, "Trip de Funk". Just gettting rolling, going to be a steady gig.
3) Rhythm acoustic guitarist in the "Laura Wilkie Band"; backing up a young singer regionally. And yes, it *is* country music. :D
We have been busy working with a new producer who has been rearranging, and re-recording 5 tracks off our last CD, as well as some new stuff. I'm happy with the direction this producer is taking the music. On a selfish note, the new arrangements really allow me to show off my chops, and I even get to take a few solos here and there :D We got screwed on the mixes and overall recording quality of our last CD and it is just not a good representation of the band and what we sound like live, or are capable of doing.
We should finish up sometime at the end of this month. This has been the most fun I've ever had in the studio.
We are also still gigging steadily, which is always a blast!

I just bought a Yamaha AW2816 and am transfering all my 8 track recordings from my Yamaha MD8 and remixing them with the tools now available.
I will be starting a new demo recording in the coming months that will be recorded solely on the AW.
Fun stuff...

My band is currently undergoing some re-construction. So, we have been re-recording some parts (bassist and me) to use as backing tracks for the drummer and vocalist.

Just got a Mackie HUI to go with my Pro Tools system. Very cool indeed!!! Works flawlessly, and makes simultaneous engineering and playing so much easier. Nice to have buttons to work with rather than the mouse all the time.
So, with my new found inspiration, I have been writing about a song a day for the last week.

Just got a new drummer, so we've started working on tightening up some new songs & writing more for our next album.
I'm also working...not terribly quickly though...on a bunch of my wife's songs. Also brought in some stuff one of my old bands did on ADAT and messing around with mixing that. It's a bit tough sometimes as most of the tunes are 24 tracks and my computer chokes a bit when all 24 are used.
