I have a Strat-style guitar that was built for me in the early 80's by Phil Kubicki. It has a Hawiian Koa one-piece body, 14" radius ebony fingerboard, nice Birdseye maple neck, EMG's active pickups with a "Fat" control (SPC control...) and a Floyd Rose trem (remember now...it was the 80's).

I have never seen another like the one I have and although it has copius amounts wear from all the years in the bars, etc. it still plays and sounds terrific.

Phil Kubicki is a former Fender employee and then made his unique basses starting in the mid -80's. Now and then I see the occasional Kubicki Telecaster for sale on Ebay but never another Strat like mine.

Here's the pics:

My guitar teacher was a Kubicki artist in the early 90s, so Phil made him a Tele and a Strat. He mainly plays the Tele. He claims the Strat is rosewood, but I think it's koa. The Tele, I am pretty sure, is koa.

Honestly, the Strat is crap. It plays like a block of wood.

The Tele on the other hand.... very sweet. It's a Nashville model before Nashvilles were a production guitar. But it's a S/S/S with a lipstick pup in the neck position. Plays well, and sounds even better. Lots of Tele twang, and nice nice growl in the bottom end.

The Tele, like your Strat, has active EMGs in it for the bridge and middle position.

Peace,
