View Full Version : Finish Repairs

As some of you may know from reading my other thread here, I bought a new Telecaster.

This Tele has two large gashing in it. One at the very edge of the body, the other ON the edge. Both go past the red paint, and into silver paint. One a couple of cracks leading away from it.

Normally I wouldn't worry about this to much, but these things have some jagged edges that catch clothing. Not good! So I think I am going to have them fixed and refinished.

Can anyone recommend folks in the area (or even at a distance... I can ship) who may be able to fix it? And any clue how much something like this would cost?

Thanks!
Aldwyn

Hey Aldwyn!!

Congrats on the Tele, I KNEW that G.A.S. was working against you.
As far as repairing the gouges, it may not be worth it. I assume that
the guitar is finished with urethane, like most these days. It would
probably nearly as much to fill/repair the damage than it would to
refinish the entire guitar. If you should decided to refinish the entire
body, let me know, as I could definetly help you in that regard.

Who am I kidding? The GAS *ALWAYS* works against me! :D

Ya know... I forgot you had experience with this sort of thing, Mr Builds Hisownguitars!

While I don't want to refinish the body totally (I dig the midnight wine color, and the rest of the finish is in AWESOME shape) do you think you could look at it, and tell me if patch work would be to much of a PinA? And if not, how much you'd charge me to fix them? :-)

I wonder though... if I went to someone like Chuck's or Jack at Magdon, how much they would charge.

I called Brian The Pusher, and he didn't think it would be that much, and told me to bring it on in the shop to have the techs take a look at it. <shrug>

Peace,
Aldwyn
