What can anyone tell me about the semi hollow bodies... Custom 22's, Artist's etc...Were they just an option or production? When? What years? How many? etc. What difference in sound/tone over solid bodies...Pro's /Con's.
Thanks for any info.

It was an option on my Custom 22. It softens the attack of notes, so that they have a bit of sag to them. I like it. The body is also slightly thicker, which I also like.

My friend has a mid 90s Custom 22 semi-hollow and I played it at a gig. Like Guitararmy said it softens the attack and adds a little warmth to the tone. He bought the guitar new and it's one of his all time favorites.

That's a good way to put it. My Artist III is semi-hollow and I've just been describing the sound as "just as strong as my other PRSi but more mellow at the same time." I love the sound above the 12th fret on the lower strings - it seems like the sound quality holds up there really well.

SH was a rarely-ordered option on both Cu 22s and 24s for a number of years. It was discontinued first on the 24s (not sure just when), and then on the 22s in December 2001. At that point they made all the guitars that were in the order system, so the last production ones are early 2002s. It always surprised me that such a cool option -- especially for a stoptail 22 -- was so rare.

Thanks Guys. If anyone else has any experience with this chime in and let me know. Any idea how many were actually produced?

I had a Custom 22 semi-hollow hardtail and I sold it.
I am an ass.
Dumbest sale of my life.

I've had quite a few, still have 3 or 4. They are mellow but the sustain is exceptional. Warm & endless. Art II, Art III, Cu22s. All very light and my CU22 is a W-Thin neck which makes it extra sweet for me. I'm a fan.
