Maybe not what you are looking for, but the British guitar mag called Total Guitar comes with CDs with backing tracks to help you learn parts. Awesome rag, and great CDs to boot. Highly recommended, even with the high price for a 1 year subscrition here in the US.
Peace,
Aldwyn
You could do Line 6's Guitarport service.
You first need one of their interfaces - I forget the name - or else something in the POD multi-effects series to connect to your computer. The newer POD's connect to a USB.
Then you pay Line 6 a monthly fee, get on line and download or play on line along with famous songs that've had the solos or the rhythm guitar track removed. There's quite a substantial library but I don't know about AC/DC or Santana.
The final cool thing is that you get to choose tones including amp modeling that are close to the originals to use to play along.

Get hold of Total Accuracy backing tracks, recorded in the UK by top players who are anal about producing great tracks. They come with a book of lyrics/dots/tab and performance notes. Highly recommended. The Santana is particularly good. Check out the ads in Guitarist Magazine (the world's best) or www.totalaccuracy.com (http://www.totalaccuracy.com) (I think that's the right address).

Hey Julian!
That link goes to a electronics company! :)
I think the link for Total Accuracy is http://www.jamtrax.com.
Give that a shot, as it appears to be the correct URL.

HI Aldwyn,
Sorry about that, I should have checked; of course it's Jamtracks. I used to be in a Band with Steve Finch, Mick Ash and Alison Pearse who play on many of the Total Accuracy tracks, and I know the owners of the company, Stuart Bull and KIm Waller, plus some of the other great players thay use. They all do a great job and produce a really useful product, whether you use them to learn, jam, or whatever.
It was great to meet you and jam with you when we were over, thanks for that! I hope we can meet up again sometime.
Regards,
Julian.

I've got loads of backing tracks which I've harvested from all the cover cd's from the English guitar mags over the last 8 years or so.
A good cheap alternative is to find free midi files on line (I like www.midibuddy.net (http://www.midibuddy.net) .. check the forums there) and you can pull them into software like Cakewalk and delete the tracks with the guitars and just keep the drums and bass. They work pretty well to jam along with, and you can find just about any song that you are looking for.

Nice one Jo, I'll check out midibuddy. But beware, midi files vary in quality. It took me hours once to discover that I kept getting lost in the track because the chorus had an extra bar that shouldn't have been there. T'was a Simply Red song where the verse and chorus used the same two chords, very easy to lose it!
I'm still enjoying the memory of my visit to your lovely home, and playing your great guitars! What a day! And Eric Johnson was pretty good too! We were lucky he was in town. A great trip all round.
Love to all you guys in Annapolis.
Julian.

Julian.Oh yeah, there are some terribly done midi's out there (but what do you expect for free). But then again, there are some that are awesomely done. We use them just for the drum tracks, and most have been pretty good (some of those songs we played were midi tracks.. Ramble On/Bryan Adams etc). Midibuddy does have some pretty good tracks tho', and you can also pay for pro tracks there as well. I'm on the forums there as " Jo- ".
Julian anytime you're back in the area you're welcome here again. I hope you're behaving yourself, I've never met someone who had such a mischievous glint in their eye, as you :D

Hey Jo,
With a lady like you around it's easy to have a glint in the eye! And I know the other one one was a bit bloodshot, but I'd just stepped off the plane. You're such a Trini, so typically lovely! My wife Karen was amazed to hear that I'd found another Trini in Annapolis! Great.
I had a look at midibuddy, didn't find a good one. Check out the count in to Gary Moore's "Still got the Blues", a song I know well. There is no way you could ever get into this track!
I'll be back to see you all over there. Karen wants to see your rehearsal room. She can't believe that a girl can be as crazy as us guys about guitars and stuff. But I'm glad that you are!
Keep up the good work, love to Jim!
JC.
Are you looking for 'Still Got the Blues'... I've got one on mp3 courtesy a GT magazine from the last century(Phil Hilbourne/Geoff Whitehorn or one of those guys), if you want it, just let me know.... and that goes for anyone else too. If you're looking for something just let me know (I've got some AC/DC and Santana too).

It's called a Guitar Port.
There is AC/DC and Santana content as well.
A great little device that should sit next to every PC.
It stops the wife falling over my amp as well.:dude:

They are also part of the POD XT as well, are they not? I thought I had read somewhere that you could use the Guitar Port service with the XT.

Indeed you can, you just download the free Guitar Port software and use it with your XT.

HI Jo,
No, I already have the Total Accuracy version of Still GTB, I was just doing a comparison with the midi file version. Thanks anyway though.
Love from JUlian.

Jo, I'd love the Still Got the Blues if you could email it to me. If it's not too much trouble.
Thanks, Allan
