Looks as if i am definately getting the shiva. whenever my mesa comes out of the shop for the fx loop getting fixed it will be going on ebay. I will only have my fender pro junior to play at that time. which is fine. and then i will be saving for the shiva. we can all thank bob savage for inflicting gas with his sound clips as well as the gearpage for fueling the fire and for ultrasound rehearsals for letting me crank the shiva as loud as i wanted for a whole 32 dollars an hour. it wont be for a while but im set. I dont think i will have any more gas after this. I know people always say that but its real this time for me. el34 head with reverb is the flavor for me

Hey wsaraceni, I just picked an EL-34 reverb head up last week. Great amp!

You won't regret this decision. The Shiva is a terrific amp.

I have a question, why are there so many Shivas for sale in the Emporium on TGP? Everyone loves that amp, and I can see one in my future as well.

Becuase it's the gear page... Some of those guys are just nuts! :)
There is so much gear that moves through their hands, it's almost unbelivable.

No Joke! You will love the Shiva...I think it could be one of the best amps of all time for plug n' play tone to die for! ;)

For the same reason you see so many everything on sale there. A true gear-slut has no loyalties! :D

I still refuse to let you guys talk me into getting one. Although the thought of having both my Recto AND a Shiva doesn't sound half bad to me. Wait, no, stop...

I really need to hear one of these things. I will most likely sell (or trade) my Carr Mercury since I don't play it that much since I got a Rambler. The decision seems to be between a Dr. Z Maz Jr. and the Shiva . . .

You won't be disappointed. I've had both, and the 6L6 was the one for me. But the EL34 is grand!

Enjoy!

Whatever you do, do NOT tell me that you like it. Under any circumstances. My bank account thanks you in advance.

The Shiva rules!
I dont have one...maybe someday. It's gonna depend in part on how well the Aiken Sabre I have ordered stands up to those same tones.
I should know in a month or two!

j"maybe someday?" I thought you were Mr. Shiva the past few years.

(off topic; Steve, check out my 'Holy Grail' thread. ;) )

Tom,
I used to be Mr. Shiva. Now, I'm Mr. Two Rock Custom Reverb/Mr. Carr Rambler/Mr. Guytron GT100/Mr. Tone King Comet40B...and soon to be Mr. Aiken Sabre (maybe I need some penicillin!)... :p

Too many amps...too little time/$.

I chalk most of it up to "the grass is greener on the other side" syndrome.

I agree with you and Jamie both, for me the grass is ALWAYS greener. It sucks. What if the Shiva sounds just THAT much better than my Rake, I should have that, right?

See what I mean? :(

I'm happy, and really not eve thinking about it. Really. ;)

I'm happy, and really not eve thinking about it. Really. ;)I am pretty schooled on the Rake vs. the Shiva; they are my main amps.

I have owned a Rake since 1996, when they came out. I have owned a Shiva since 2001 or 2002 (I can't remember!).

They are similar. But they are VERY different at the same time.

Sort of like Haagen Daas Chocolate vs. Ben & Jerry's Chocolate. Similar, but different.

Truth be told, I am not going to part with either so I am not selling anything; my opinions are just my opinions. No subtext.

The Shiva is better at cleans. The Rake has a better "pushed clean". The Rake does not have the headroom or punch the Shiva gets on the clean channel. The Rake's pushed clean is many times better than the Shiva's IMHO.

The Overdrive channels are where the flavor thing *really* comes in; I love both. The Shiva has a bigger sound, with more body and mids; the Shiva has more colors and with the footwitch has more to choose from. The Shiva footswitch boost needs to be worked in tandem with turning the reverb off - which gives you a volume boost. But the Rake's boost is better. The Rake has more gain, but it is a completely different shade of sound than the Shiva.

I generally prefer the Shiva over the Rake; but dig both. And having sold both the Rake and the Shiva at one point or another; the ones I have are NOT going anywhere ever again; unless things get extreme money-wise.

If you ever want to talk about it, email me your phone number and we can talk.
