I want to know of a program I can get that will aloow me to record multiple tracks using the line in on my sound card. This is just for fun mainly...and if it works, could use it to craft songs, etc. I would like to go out from my little processor to the sound card and record several tracks. Any help?

Mike -

Are you talking about recording several tracks simultaneously?

If so, a single line-in isn't going to cut it unless you use a mixer and, even then, you don't get individual control over the incoming tracks.

If, on the other hand, you want to record 1 track, then listen to it while you record the next and so on, there are many software offerings and your sound card's fine. I didn't check out PSXguru's link but there are several public domain programs as well as commercial ones that will allow you to record tracks serially.

I just want to do one track at a time. I downloaded the N-Track Studio, and will play more with it tomorrow. It seems like it might just be what I am looking for. If you all know any other progs for me to try, let me know!

Worth having a look at free/lite/demo versions of Pro Tools, Cubase, Emagic Logic, Digital Performer.
There are also a lot of completely free apps out there that will do what you're asking. Google may halp you out here...

Also, check out the forum at:

Sound on Sound is a british mag, geared towards though who record and produce music. The forum contains a wealth of information that you could search through, or you could register and I'm sure you'll get some very good, quick answers. Check it out though, well worth a read.

Good luck.

Quinn.

I like this program except that when I try to lay down a second track, thie first one bleeds into the second unless I use the mixer and kill the wave level all the way, but then I cant play along to the first track since I cant hear it. Any help on this?

In n-tracks, go to view, soundcard's mixer, recording controls, and make sure the box next to record what you can hear is NOT checked. Also check out www.audiominds.com (http://www.audiominds.com) which is an n-tracks support site.
