After the POD deception, and the conclusion you can't record a 4x12 at night, I started thinking about a way to record a real amp without the without building an iso-booth in my house... I checked the Randall Silent cab, I looked at the Demeter cab, but both are probably not silent enough, and cost a small fortune. I remembered my drawing classes from engineerschool and started drawing some ideas some time ago...
So today I finally started work on my Silent Recording Speaker, the DogHouse (tm).
Prototype 1 is loaded with a 12" Celestion sidewinder 150 w, 8 ohm speaker.

The inside will be completly carpeted, and the baffle board is slightly angled to create an asymetrical recording space.
In phase 2, I will add sound absorving foam to the outside of this cab.

So far, so good! Let us know how it turns out.

yeah, let us know how it comes out.

I wanted to do something similar, but after reading about all the problems that *may* come up, I decided not to build such a cab.

For now I am thinking about using a Palmer Load-box/cab sim or even a super-expensive Motherload. Still havenīt decided yet...

I remember Demeter making something like this before and sonny landreith (sp?) using one..but I like the DIY attitude..

The Prototype is finished and I sounds great!!!
With my Koch Multitone I hardly hear anything, my string are making more noise. With my Plexi it's different story... It clearly needs a powerbrake to push the amp to realy overdriven tone (volumes +5) and keep the DogHouse volume at low-(non)-volume.

Cool project - thanks for sharing the progress.

Some insulation I saw installed on This Old House might be just the ticket to silence the cabinet even with the louder amps. The latest generation of mineral wool not only thermally insulates very well, but provides a tremendous sonic barrier as well. They demonstrated it by dropping a screeching 130db alarm into a bucket of the stuff. You couldn't hear it in the bucket. Quite impressive, and it made me want my whole house done with the stuff. You can probably find it by doing a google.
