From what I've read - which is quite a bit - the smart money says that Jeter will move over to either 2nd or 3rd, thus establishing himself as the greatest team player ever. Arod is a significantly better SS than Jeter, much as I love Derek.

i thought the word on the street was that ARod will play 3rd replacing what's his face that got hurt playing bball and Jeter will remain at short. then they need a second baseman. that's ok, they'll get Roberto Alomar or someone to play second.

i consider myself a Yankees fan, not hardcore, but i'm happy about this.

Heres "my take" as a *unbiased fair headed yankee fan*...

1. You have the chance to get the best player in baseball at 28, YES 28! you get him! (Soriano is a monster also! but theres only 1 A-Rod)

2. This really puts the squeeze on the Mets + Red Sox (OUCH!!)

3. Steinbrenner is really getting "crazy" as he gets older. Reports are that Gene "stick" Micheal used to be able to talk to him about player input, development, trades, evaluation, ect (now Steinbrenner listens to almost nooooo one) Stick built up the great yankee farm system of early 90's..

4. Baseball has to CONTROLL salary structure, revenue sharing a lil better. The yankee payroll is getting F-ing NUTZ!! ~~~ The Yankees are technically doing nothing wrong, (playing within rules) but basesball has to keep a eye on the situation. 9 All-Stars is getting to be a bit much...

5. Finally heres my "baseball" take. ~~~~~ The Yankeees could have spent 75-80 million on Guerrero, (if he wanted NY) thus NOT taking Sheffield! They could have used that $$$ on a pitcher. Also they would have ONLY SPENT $$$$ + not had to trade a "rising star" (hes already awesome!) So they could have saved $$$, kept Soriano (no hole at 2nd) no Shefield, + got a pitcher in return..

Should have got Vladi..
NOT trade Soriano..
Saved $$$, and Kept Andy Pettite..

Thats "The Winning Formula"......

PS --- Hey j where/how did you get Andy Pettite? :D

It's getting to be like the Lakers making a schedule where they play 60 high school teams a season.

Baseball is on its way out. If they don't fix it, it'll collapse under it's own weight.

PS --- Hey j where/how did you get Andy Pettite? :DThe Astros showed the guy some "respect". From what I've heard and read, Andy was not happy about the Yanks lack luster attempts at keeping him in NY. Apparently they "drug their feet" in attempts to re-sign him. There has been a buzz here in Houston about Pettite coming home for the past year. As the season came to an end and there was no re-signing, the buzz got bigger... I mean the sports fans in the city were getting crazy. Every body wanted Andy to come back home. It was just as "crazy" when Roger decided to join him. This is one of those rare cases where no one can say they "sold out". Both guys could have gotten much more money elsewhere, but the Astros got the "home town discount".

It should be interesting because the Astros manager has a tendency to over manage... pulling guys in 5th inning while they are pitching shut-out ball and such. I can't wait till Williams goes to mound and Roger tells him to go sit down... :)

I want Arod in my band. I want him to work for my company.

I want him on the Phillies. I want him to be Governor of PA.

I want him piloting the next jet I'm on.

I want him to do my colorectal exam.

I want him giving the State of the Union address next year. I want him to marry my daughter and I don't have a daughter.

Arod is a once-in-a-lifetime wonder of the world and the Yanks acted brilliantly in reading the tea leaves and snatching him.

And I stand by my prediction that Jeter will move over to allow the nation's greatest shortstop to play shortstop.
