Got a warining letter about "Search manipulation" by posting a name other than what I`m selling. IE: "Boss CH1 not prs" as what I did. They sure are getting strict. Yes, I did this with the intention of item being listed not only under effect pedals but also in the PRS guitar section. I`ve seen it done all abroad Ebay but I guess now they are coming down on this. Now mind you I`m not out to scam anyone as my listing states chorus and pics is of chorus pedal. Just wanted to point this out to all you who do this or would like to do this. I liked it only because you get your item looked at by wider potential buyers.

I'm with you. Nothing is more irritating than looking for a "Bogner" and seeing a Mesa Amp with the description, "not Bogner, Marshall, Matchless". I won't bid if a seller does that.

None of those had really bothered me one bit. If the ad title interest me, I look. If not, I skip. The ones that bother me is those PRS framed ads of PRS endorsees that are out of guitar mags.

I think it is a revenue issue with ebay. You can list your pedal in many categories if you want -all at an extra charge. Putting stuff to hook the search accomplishes the same thing for no extra fee and reduces their income, hence the warnings.
Personally, I don't like non-relevant phrases in the auction titles or descriptions. -Just my $.02

That's true.
Like people complaining about what's on TV. If you don't like it turn it off or turn it over.

i disagree. if you want to search for PRS on ebay and get 50 items in your results that say "not PRS", that's quite annoying, IMO.

AFAIK, they haven't allowed that for a long time. But they also haven't been diligent in enforcing it either.
Personally, I'm thrilled they're doing it. I hate, it's annoying and I've purposely not bid on items (and emailed the seller to tell them) because of it.
If I'm looking for a PRS, I'm not interested in a Chorus pedal, and vice-versa.

exactly! i'm with you. i hate slushing through all the other sh!t on ebay when all i want to do is look at PRSi.
if people want chorus pedals, they'll look for chorus pedals.
I agree, it shouldn't be done, I tried it once in my early ebay life, my auction got canned. Funny, I got it from other people doing it, I get canned, and it's still going on.

I think people will stop doing it now, I know I will. Can`t afford to have my ad pulled and have to relist again just because of that.

I must admit, I probably benefitted from it - An American Ovation I was selling so I put in not Martin Gibson. 750 odd viewings. I had a clear side pic (gallery) showing the Ovation body. Chorus pedal in a PRS search though ... mind you, don't just put in PRS on a wild card search or you'll get millions of pairs of socks, jeans, you name it! I think that if they are going to stop people, they should have first Emailed all members with a 'don't do it' or put it on the home or selling page. It shouldn't be one law for one and another for another though. I do feel that I was slightly bending the rules and it is a guitar - not an effect pedal when looking for a guitar. In your defence also, you would have listed it under effects as a category. They're obviously making too much money - it runs itself pretty much and can you imagine the amount of stuff that goes through every second? Can I buy shares in Ebay?!!

I've bought and sold on Ebay for years. This is called "Keyword Spamming". Ebay does random checks, and if they catch one they'll normally warn you, and the next time they will pull your auction. You can also get turned in by another Ebay member. I know of a couple of fairly high volume Ebay sellers who look for this on items they sell, and turn the offenders in.
