PRS Dragons, and guitar sound on Jenna’s Eyes
Finally picked up the Dragons’ Jenna’s Eyes on the way to the PRS guitar showing at the Easton Art Academy last week. Have seen the band several times, including at Forum events, and always meant to pick up a CD of theirs. Have been enjoying Jenna’s Eyes very much this week.
Forgot how moving the instrumental tune “Portsmouth Calling” is (to me), but also remember how much drive the Dragons give it live. To me, that tune is a standout. [Would enjoy seeing them do it yet again...] And while I can follow [most of] the notes in the melody, wondered if anyone has a take on how to achieve the subtle harmonic doubling at the intro. Not sure if it’s Paul, his Koch, Ralph, his Bogner, and/or some pedal. I know a lot of the sound is in the hands, of course, but there’s this octave thing in the melodic line at the intro. Anybody else know I mean, how you achieve this sorta sound?
[The CD contains hear the Dragons’ rendition of the Star Spangled, and I now remember how moving it was them perform that tune at the St. Mary’s College event. It was during the Summer, around a year after 9/11, and hearing them perform the tune out there very close to the edge of the water, in the open on a beautiful night, was something.]

Anyone have news on their schedule, and on achieving the sound on “Portsmouth Calling”? [Didn’t see much about the Dragons on the PRS page just now.]

Thanks,
Larry

Larry,

I'm not certain but I think it's Ralph you're hearing. Lending to the tone may be the set of "RP" pickups, yes for Ralph Perucci that he had custom wound and which are not standard on the Modern Eagle.

Thanks for the reply, Dave. Have yet to hear/actually see one of those Eagles other than the pictures of the gorgeous blue one.
From what I heard [rumors?] last weekend, the 513 isn't on the streets at this point.
Will do some more looking around on the Forum and the net over the weekend re the Dragons and their CDs. Also, had forgotten that Mike Ault played with them a year ago at the Forum event; he was something else, too, and will also try to see if he's playing around in the near future.
