Anybody else grab this one? What are your thoughts? I don't want to say too much, but the Fade to Black cover was pretty cool.

My take..C+ (Coming from a huge Disturbed fan)

For those of you who aren't familiar with this album/DVD, it is a live recording of the highlights from the Music as a Weapon II tour that included Disturbed (headliner), Chevelle, Taproot, and Ünloco. The cuts for this album were from Chicago, the home of Disturbed and Chevelle.

I'll say that of the four, Disturbed is the most solid live band, followed by Ünloco, then Chevelle, then finally, Taproot.

Since, the vocal performances are the weakest point of this album (IMO, Taproot was downright sad) I would suggest coughing up the extra $ and getting the Album/DVD edition. The DVD is a mirrored setlist of the album, but obviously you get to "see" the concert, which helps make up for the other deficiences

Disturbed does a pretty good cover of Metallica's Fade to Black along with a nice version of Darkness, where Mike (the drummer) plays bass, Fuzz (Bassist) shifts to guitar 2, and Dan plays guitar as well. I would have never have known this, if not for the DVD...

Chevelle, did ok, I have never really like their live sound. IMO, it's incomplete.

Taproot was horrible. I almost felt like they were included to make the other bands look/sound better. I was really surprised by this because their studio effort was really pretty good.

Ünloco, honestly, I am not to familiar with them. But, they did sound decent relative to Chevelle, but fuller which made them a little more enjoyable to me.

Thanks Phil, I love Disturbed too. I think that David Draiman has an awesome voice, one of the best rock singers out there these days. He's certainly my favourite. (he's kinda sexy in a big beefy bald way too ;) )

I've got the Disturbed Live MOL DVD (anyone know what M.O.L. stands for?) so I think I'll be looking out for this one too.

Who played the drums when they did the instrument switcheroo?

Who played the drums when they did the instrument switcheroo? In that particular song there aren't any drums. It's the "ballad" last track on Believe.

I was trying to figure out who played string part live.... I can't see them going through the trouble of sampling strings after making such an effort instrumentally. And it's not like there is a lack of string players in Chicago :D

That sucks. I always liked Taproot as one of the better young "nu-metal" bands out there. But I hate it when good studio bands can't cut it live. Studio magic can be deceiving. :(
