I've reported it to eBay but they haven't taken it down. Be warned! The post is months old, so these people obviously plan their work carefully. :-(

Why doesn't someone just e-mail him with a BIN like he asks on the last line in the description?
Zilmo's actually getting a good deal. Those custom singlecut's with a double cut are hard to come by latley.:D

Currently up to £5million and climbing fast. And I thought Les Pauls were expensive :-) Surely this must be a record price for a guitar on eBay ;-)

It might be hard, as the guitar is sitting about 5 feet away from me as I type this! However it might be worth a few of us emailing the idiot to arrange a viewing. :-) Anyone want to take a bet on whether he's 'out of the country right now, but needs to sell, so if you just give him your address he will send you a banker's cheque that includes a little extra for shipping...' blah blah blah

A pal of mine has volunteered the use of his ebay account, sporting 300+ feedback including lots of guitar-related trades, in order to initiate a little fun and frolics with this 'tard. His account name is mal***, so I've created a gmail account in the name of Mal Gelding, who has a keen eye for a good six-string investment opportunity. I've started the ball rolling with this:
Hi,
I'm really interested in your PRS Custom as a first rate investment opportunity. It saddens me that it seems that some stupid people have been putting in silly bids in an obvious attempt to ruin your auction. They are just selfish and jealous, I think. Ebay is useless these days. Can we come to some sensible arrangement for a BIN, outside of ebay? Please email me at malgelding@gmail.com (malgelding@gmail.com).
Best regards,
Malcolm.

I've replied:
Hello Robert,
I'm delited that you're interrested. Before I can make you an offer I need to work out my money and also try to find out how much a 1990 PRS Custom Single Cut Signature is worth. It is difficult for me because I've never bought an investment guitar befour I understand that the birds on the body make it more valuble, yes? Also, I know that PRS 11 tops are highly prised. Is Wales Blue are custom colour, do you now? I'll get back to you with an offer this after noon. I hope that I can raise enough money to satisfy you. What is your favourite mode of payment?
Mal.

10-10-2007, 07:49 AM
I've just sent him this:
Hello again Robert,
I've just looked at your auction again. Some stupid people have bidded it up to ten million pounds! Why have they done that? I now that it's a 21st Century '59 Les Paul, but even 20th Century '59 Les Paul's don't cost that much. What stupid, stupid people. I wish there eBay identitities were not hidden, so that I could gave them a peace of my mind.
I've worked out my money. I have to be careful because I have a surgery to pay for soon, but equally I don't want to make you an insulting ofer for your Signature Singlecut. Would you be proppared to acept 2250 pounds for your Blue guitar? I know that it's very rare and has birds and everything, but I'm afraid that's about as much as I can afford. If it's enough to please you, let me know how you would like me to pay you for it. I'd like to do the deal quickly so that I have the guitar before I go into hospital.
One last question, are you *sure* that it's an 11 top? I now that the really pretty PRSs have '10' tops, but does this one really go up to 11?
Best,
Malcolm X
BTW - the godawful English I'm using is deliberate. I did go to skool occasional. Honest.

He's replied:
Hello Mal,
Yes the PRS series are highly prised...I saw once on ebay that one PRS was sold for 1800GBP.Yes that's why the guitar is more expensive because of the birds on the body. And yes wales blue is a custom colour. The payment method is bank transfer. Thanks and pls let me knw your best price
Thanks
Robert Mihai
I was too busy having a stupendous time at the Rush gig at Wembley to respond. So a few hours later, he got a little more verbose:
Malcolm,
I saw that some very stupid people are making jokes with me and ebay..eBay is already aware of this and is taking measures against their "jokes".
Yes i\m very sure that the guitar it's an 11 top and not 10 top.
You will fall in love with this guitar please believe me.
I'm sorry that you have to go to the hospital and make that surgery.
And yes we have a deal for 2250 GBP and we can close the deal asap if you want to buy the guitar and bank transfer is ok with you.
You can have the guitar by the end of this week..or in the week-end.
I will send asap my bank details for the bank wire transfer if you agree.
Thanks and pls let me know asap

I have replied:
Dearest Robert,
I'm delited that you'll be sadistfied with the price I have offered. Please let me have your bank detales and I'll send you the money asap.
I hope to be able to go to the bank to send the money to you tommorrow after noon, but that depends on the hospital. I have to go in to have a brazilian wax done in advance of my operation, and to have my blood tested for foot and mouth, which has been a problem in this part of the country recently.
If I'm delayed at the hospital for any reason, I'll definately be able to send the wire on moniday morning, and I'll email you as soon as it's gone. Please let me have your bonk detales know.
Thanks awfully,
Mal

bigegolittletalent - may I ask a favour of you? At the beginning of the year I had some sport with a Russian scammer who was trying to auction a guitar that belonged to a friend of mine. The thread is http://forums.birdsandmoons.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34341&highlight=archtop+scam
At the end, I emailed the clown a picture of the guitar, but with an extra 'bird' added:
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f47/ianjackson5150/TheBird.jpg
Would you able take a pic of your guitar with a similar finger added? I'd like to give 'Robert' a little something to remind him of his dealings with Mal Gelding when I've finished with him.

Well, with his eBay auction blown out of the water, I guess that Mal Gelding is the only chance of a payday that he has left. He's sent me this:
Hello Malcolm,
Did you managed to make the transfer?
Thanks
So, I wonder if I can get an address out him....? I've sent this:
Dear Robert,
I raced to the bank from the hospital after my pre-operation Brazilian wax and I made it just in time. Getting a full Braz hurt like hell, but not nearly as much as the operation to come, I can tell you! Well, I've already had half of the surgery, so at least I know what to expect now.
The transfer is all set up to happen, but the bank say that they can't action it without your addess, because it's such a lot of money. Do you know if this is true, or are they lying to me? I didn't have a lot of confidence in the teller that I was speaking to, to be honest. Perhaps you can let me have your adress, so that I can get the money out to you tomorrow? If you can email it to me first thing, I can get the wire done before 12 and you'll get your £2250 all the more soon, macaroon ;0)
Also, they tell me that the transfer will take 2-3 days to reach your acount. Asuming that you are able to send the guitar to me the day after the money cleers, I was will actualy be in hospital by then. I hope you'll have no problems sending it to Finisham Hospital? It's a private hospital and I'm sure it accepts guitars. I'm so looking forward to getting this beautiful Wales Blues PRS Double Custom Singlecut 11 top with body birds!!
All the best, my friend. I really hope and pray that we can get this deal done quickly.
Love,
Mal.

Now, on the off-eBay sale, let's see if I can stitch him up like a kipper.
I'll take credit for the bogus bid. The reason I even have that eBay name is that a scammer, a few months ago, tried to sell MY amp on eBay. Maybe some of you guys saw the Gear Page thread I started on that amp, it was entitled "hey, somebody is selling MY amp on eBay!".
It was a Matchless Chieftain that I was selling on Craigslist in the SF Bay Area. The eBay seller had used my photos and my text, and simply put it up on eBay. I bid some crazy amount, and of course "won" the amp. But I only bothered to bid on it after my repeated complaints to eBay went nowhere. They were not interested in this scam. Really sad. So I figured the next best thing to getting the listing pulled was to bid and win, using a throw-away eBay account.
A few days ago, when I saw this PRS scam, I figured I'd reuse my "the_seller_is_a_scammer" account, and hey, I won!
So that's my story.
cheers - Richard

don't you need an address to open a bank account? see if you can get that address from the bank (perhaps with the help of the police). I'll assume it is fake. Then allegedly mail the receipt to the fake address, tell him it was returned as undeliverable (which he will understand), and ask for a better one. just a thought.

Our boy is understandably antsy about his address:
Hi Malcolm,
There is no need to post it.If the bank gave you the receipt for the transfer you can scan it and send it by email like attachment.
Thanks and take care

Tell him you don't have a scanner! You have to supply good ID to open a bank account in the UK, so the address the bank has will probably be his real one.

The UK bank account is probably stolen via phishing. Here in the UK we get 10s of spam a week offering 'job opportunities' accepting funds from UK bank accounts and wiring the money Western Union to foreign destinations; e.g. money mules. They phish the accounts, accept money from scams, transfer that to the mule who wires them the cash.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll be visiting my local branch of Halifax later this week, but I haven't nearly finished ****ing with him yet. I've just sent him this:
Hellooo Robert,
Ah, I see what you meen. I'd love to scan it but I can't scan it because I don't have a scanner. My friend has a scanner so he might be able to scan it but I'll have to wait for him to finish his shift at the pet funeral home where he works as a specialist poodle embalmer. I don't really like going to his house, though, because he often brings his work home with him and it can be quite unpleasant. It's not nice opening his refridgerator to get out the milk to make a cup of tea and there's this dead dog staring at you balefully from out of a jar of formaldehyde. That said, the end result can look amazingly lifelike. I've attached a picture of one example of his work for your enjoyment. I don't suppose that you or anyone you know has a pet poodle that on its last legs? I can get you a good price!
Love,
Mal.

Hi Bob,
Do you mind if I call you 'Bob'?
I'm so excited that you'll have your 2250 pounds tomorrow, and then you can post the PRS Custom Single Doublecut in Wales Blue with Body Birds to me. Can you arrange for it to be delivered to me on Monday? At 6am on Monday mourning I'll be checking into the Finisham Private Hospital ready for my pre-operative enema and Reiki session. When I wake up from the anusthetetic I'll be as sore as hell, but at least I'll have the Wales Blue guitar to look at. Hemorroid surgery is such a *****, you know. I have to pay for it myself because the National Health Service waiting list is currently 230 years and I can't wait that long. Unfortunately, I can only afford to get one 'roid done at a time, so I have to save up to get each one ripped off. It's a damn disgrace, I tell you! It's only because I saved up so much money from my evening job as a rent boy outside King's Cross Station that I can afford the PRS Custom Single Doublecut in Wales Blue with Body Birds. Pity that I'll not be able to play it sitting down. Is there a strap with it?

By the way, is your wife good looking?..does she have hot friends? some members of our band like to participate in hot group sex before our gigs. Do you think that would be possible? We may be able to play for slightly less if that were the case.
Thank you again for your interest. I want to assure you that we are a very professional and classy outfit and you will not be disappointed.

I've just had a long conversation with Halifax's fraud department. The clearing banks have become pretty hot in recent years on prosecuting people who use accounts for criminal activity. I understand that he might be investigated for money laundering and terrorist connections as well, which is pretty routine these days. One thing is certain: his account will be frozen today. When he attempts to get it unfrozen, he'll have some rather awkward questions to answer.
I'll be speaking to Halifax again later while we go through the evidence that I have against him. Apart from his emails to me and the eBay auction, I have a mail that bigegolittletalent kindly sent me with pics of the guitar and a statement that it's his. That's really all that Halifax need to bring a prosecution.

Does anyone remember the reverse-scam a few years back with the 'victim' pretending to be Gillian Anderson? It was one of the 'I inherited several million from the king of wassapeepee and want to put in in your account..', you know - the one that's gotten 'old' over the years.
..this dude so thoughtfully and intelligently responded to the scammer, and told him he was Gillian Anderson - sent sexy publicity photos, talked rather provocatively back to him.
To make a long (and unbelievably hilarious) sorty short, after about a thousand emails (all posted) this guy said he was in love with the Gillian-imposter and wanted to make her his wife (or the queen of iktabooby or whatever).
He actually had the guy buy him FIRST CLASS airline tickets and sent them to him in the US!!!!:D

The following is a notice from eBay Trust & Safety regarding:
Item Number - 110178263374
Item Title - Paul Reed Smith PRS Signature Series (Custom Singlecut)
Our records show that you were a bidder or buyer of one or more of this seller's items. We recently removed this seller's active listings and suspended the seller's trading privileges. Due to privacy concerns we cannot share further details about this seller... etc etc blah blah.

Our pilgrim's bank account, which has a fairly healthy balance in it apparently, has been frozen and he's being hunted down like a dog as we speak. The police had also been in contect with eBay overnight, which would explain why I got the email about the auction this morning.
I'm expecting another call from Manchester CID later today so that they can collate the evidence that I've gathered.

Well, we haven't got quite enough info to smoke this goon out, so I have to keep digging. He thinks that Mal is going into Finisham Hospital to get his 'roid removed, so I have to hand over to one of Malcolm's friends.
Dear Bob,
I really do feel very sorry for you in your plight. What is wrong with Halifax? What have the fools done to your account? You should sue them!
We must not let this get in the way of us closing this deal because I really, *desperately* want your guitar. Thank you so much for reassuring me that all the problems that we've had won't stop us completing this deal. You are indeed an honourable and serious man. It is a real pleasure to interact with you!
Unfortunately, before I can attempt to get the money to you again, I have to get over two obstacles: the money has to find it's way back to my acount, which should happen soon, and I have the little matter of my surgery tomorrow. I don't know how many days I'll be in Finisham hospital for, or even if they have broadband so that I can email you. So what I'm going to do is let a good friend of mine, Vincent, deal with this for the next few days. I'll give him access to this email address, so please don't be alarmed when you start receiving mail from this acount, but from Vincent Black-Litening. Vince is celebrating his 55th birthday tomorrow, as it happens. Quite apart from the fear that I have over my surgery, and all the stress that I'm suffering over trying to get this money to you, I'll miss his birthday party as well.
I'm not sure yet whether it'll be easier to send the money to your brother's account, or use Moneygram. Whichever method I choose to use, let me have all the information that I need for both. What is your brother's bank information? And for Moneygram, do I need to tell them which branch you'll be collecting the money from? I've never used it before.
OK, I have to pack a bag ready for tomorrow. I'm sure you'll be thinking of me as I go under the knife. Vincent will look after the task of trying to get the money while I'm recovering.
Love,
Malcolm.
PS be sure to wish him a Happy Birthday when he mails you. It will make his day!

Hello Malcolm,
Yes i know that tomorrow morning is your surgery and i wish you all the luck in the world!
You will pass ok thru this you will be like new you'll see.I'm sure of that!
Like i said the guitar is yours and you will have it in your arms soon.I give you my word on that.
Your friend Vincent can contact me at this email address anytime he wants. No problem.I hope we can get thru this together.
I'm waiting for Vincent to contact me and let me know asap when you have the money back to your account and in cash.
You just tell me how you want to make the payment this time :i can send you my brother's bank details for a same bank wire transfer and it will take the same 2-3 days i think until the money will be in my brother's account or we can use moneygram service
Using moneygram you don't need to have a bank account. You just need my details(full name and address) and just make the transfer using those details. You can find a money gram agency by accesing their website or by calling them. The only thing here is that you will need the entire amount of money that you want to send(2250gbp) in cash.
Their fees for the transfer are a little high so you can deduct them from the total amount.I'm ok with that.
After all is my fault here because my bank screwed up and it was my account with problems.
So please let me know as soon as you can how you want to handle this.
Enjoy your recovering!
Thanks and best!
The bit that most amuses me is this:
Like i said the guitar is yours and you will have it in your arms soon.I give you my word on that.
He has no idea how true that is. With any luck, bigegolittletalent might be able to bring the very instrument down to London at the weekend.
I'll probably send him one last email as Mal Gelding a little later, then Vincent Black-Litening can take over. If I can just tease an address out of him, we'll have him

I've sent him my last mail as Mal:
Dear Bob,
Thank you so much for your good wishes. It is so pleasent to conduct buisness with someone as thoughtful as your good self.
I spoke at length to Vincent on the phone and I've explained everything to him in detail. He's got access to this email acount as well, so you should hear from him tomorrow sometime. I think you'll really enjoy talking to Vincent, he's such a sophisticated fellow and looks much younger than his years. So much so that I often tease him by calling him Vincent '52, in reference to the year that he was born. He is a good man and will make sure that you get your money some way or other. I can truly say that no-one has a soul like Vincent '52.
Although I'll be stuck in hospital, Vincent volunteered to send you the money from his own funds, as soon as I tell him that the £2250 has arrived back in my account. I'm hopeing that it will be back in the next couple of days.
Since the bonks seem to be useless, I'll probably ask him to use Moneygram. I'm sure he can ride down to Boxhill (the nearest town to him) and find one. Let me have your address and all your details and we'll do it that way.
Well, Bob, my friend, i guess i won't be speaking to you for a while. I'll miss our email chats about the beautiful Wales Blue PRS. I'm so looking forward to getting it? I wonder if the gods will be with us and I'll have it with me before I comeout of Finisham Hospital. Wouldn't it be great if I could play it on Saturday? I must go. It's great to know that you're thinking of me. Please don't forget to wish Vincent a Very Happy Birthday when he emails you.
Love,
Mal.
PS I've attached a picture of what awaits me. Gruesome, no?

"1952 Vincent Black Lighting" one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite writers, Richard Thompson. But now I think I'm going to add Ian as one of my favorite writers.
Next time you correspond, tell him that Vincent is really a kitty cat but he describes himself as a " dangerous Man" to impress the red headed ladies.

CID emailed me this morning. They're getting 'the right people' involved in the investigation and they'll call me later today. But for now, it's time for Vincent Black-Litening to start trying to smoke this bozo's address out of him for the Moneygram transfer. I've sent him this:
Hello Robert,
Vincent here. I've just spent about an hour reading through all the emails that have been flying back and forth between you and Malcolm. It has been a struggle, hasn't it, what with your problems with your bank and all. Have you managed to find out what happened there? The banks seem to be useless these days. Anyway, there's nothing that I can tell you that Malcolm hasn't explained already. Let me have all your information and I'll send the cash to you by Moneygram as soon as it's back in Mal's account. He's so excited about getting this guitar. He tells me that it has birds on it or something? I've never heard of that before. I used to play the triangle myself, but I had to give it up because I kept missing it with the little stick thingie that you're supposed to hit it with. Oh well.
Anyway, as I was saying, Mal is so thrilled about this guitar. I picked him up to take him to the hospital before dawn and he'd completely forgotten about having his 'roid op; all he could talk about was this guitar. It was a beautiful morning and when the sun rose over the dark fields, it was so stunning that I took a picture, which I've attached in case you like that sort of thing. You see, red air and black heather is my favourite colour scheme.
All the best.
Vincent.

I've just received a grammatically abysmal email from CID. Once I'd deciphered it, the bottom line was: "We've frozen his bank account; a crime was prevented rather than committed. If you want to take this further, call your local police. We're done. Thanks. Yours, etc etc..."
Unbelievable.
I should have told them that the road licence disk on his car was three days out of date; half the cops in the country would have been after him.

The police do a crappy job that I'm fairly sure none of us would choose to do - and all the coppers I've met have been decent people ...but, when it comes to engaging them in a professional capacity, every experience I've had with them has been bad.
I'm not saying they're all bad - and I can't think of a better solution to crime - it's just a shame that that's my overall impression. :(

Yeah this is what I was afraid of a few pages back, I was thinking the police simply wouldn't be bothered. In my experience too they are next to useless, a complete liability in some cases. Good luck with it all the same Ian...

OK, here's where we are at the moment.
I've checked out the address that he's given me and it turns out to be a business address, and a legitimate business at that. Then I spoke to Moneygram and that's when things got interesting. In order to collect this money that I'm not sending to him, he'll need a passport of driver's licence and at least two forms of ID with that name and address. Therefore he must have those things.
I was hoping that I could set up a fake transaction and have him arrested when he tried to pick up his ill-gotten gains, but they were having none of that. The excuse was that it could put their staff and customers at risk. What they mean is, if they started doing that and the word got out, they'd lose half of their customer base.
I don't know if he's used that ID to collect cash from Moneygram, but I'll know soon because they're doing a database search on him. What I do know is this: if he's used the service before, he won't be using it again. I got them to close him down. If he ever tries to collect cash from any Moneygram outlet in the world using that ID, he'll be turned away.

I just had a thought. I quite fancy getting a pic of the address that he's given me. I don't want to post the address on a public forum, but I can tell you that it's in Bristol. Any Bristol-based BaMers with a car, satnav and camera that fancy doing a little architectural photography? I'd go myself but London is a bit too far. The address is an office, apparently, but it might have a flat above it or whatever. I just want a pic and a feel for what the place is like. Anyone up for that? I'll start another thread just incase this post is missed by a potential volunteer.

I will have a look at Google Earth, but I really want a picture of the frontage. I have a kind volunteer, as it happens :)
Vincent has written to him again:
Hello Robert,
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, that is very very kind of you. I'm quite touched. I actually went to visit my parents at the Budley Salterton Twilight Resthome for the Hopelessly Decrepid. They talked a lot about when I was born, and the names that they were thinking of for me before they chose Vincent. They had some strange ideas, like Norton, Indian and Greaves. But in the end, they decided that Norton, Indian and Greaves wouldn't do; they were more sold on Vincent in '52.
I visited Mal this morning, but I didn't get to talk to him much because his sister was there, Melanie-Clair de Sert. I don't like her much to be honest, shes a bit sickly-sweet for my taste. Anyway he's in very high spirits, but very sore, as you imagine. He called his bank, but the money still isn't back I'm afraid. I'm sure that the banks just hang on to our money for as long as they can, the swine. But they did tell him that they had contacted your bank and the money is being sent back and should be there tomorrow. I do hope that all this gets sorted out soon, for the both of you.
Incidently, it turns out that Finisham Hospital has broadband, so I'm taking a laptop in for Malcolm so that he has access to the Interweb. You know, would you like to really cheer him up and send him an electronic get-well card? It would really make his day. I found a couple here that have birds on, just like the guitar that he's buying from you:
http://www.e-cards.com/catalog/cat-selection.pl?cat=Get%20Well (http://www.e-cards.com/catalog/cat-selection.pl?cat=Get%20Well)
Would you send him a card with birds on? You seem like such a lovely person and it would be delightful thing that would brighten his heart and ease the pain in his ass. It only takes a couple of moments and you can make it play music. He loves The Bum of the Flightleblebee.
Well, here's hoping that we can pay you tomorrow, Robert. All the best, friend.

OK, time to find out what his brother's bank account info is and get that shut down as well...
Robert,
Thank you, the card is brilliant. Mal will love it, it was so kind of you. I'm just about to drive to the hospital to deliver his laptop, so he'll be able to thank you himself.
I hope you don't mind, but I'm not sure that I really want to use Moneygram. You see I'm terrified about the prospect of carrying 2250 pounds in cash in case something happens. I'm only 4'11'' and 55lbs - I'm a retired goat-racing jockey - so the prospect of being mugged terrifies me. I was once robbed by pupils from Phelchingham Kindergarden; it was a terrifying experience. They threatened me with rolled up Teenage Ninja Turtles colouring books, and looked prepared to use them if I didn't hand over my wallet. The local shops had sold out of blue pop and Kinder Surprises 10 minutes later. Little animals.
Can i just put the money into your brother's bank account instead please? It won't make much difference to when you get it, because I've just discovered that my stupid damn bank requires 48 hours notice to withdraw more than 500 pounds. Damn banks! God, I hate them!
Anyway, I must get off to see Mal with my girlfriend Molly. I don't know if the money's in his account yet. If it is and you can give me the bank information, I might be able to do the transfer this afternoon, in which case you should have it on Friday, just ready for a great weekend.
Thanks, my friend,
Vincent.
PS I've attached a picture of Molly. That isn't quite her natural colour, but she is very thorough when dying her hair and the collar matches the cuffs, if you know what I mean ;0)

He replies:
Hi Vincent,
I don't mind and i understand you.But i want to use this service, money gram, because they don't use bank accounts or transactions between banks.
The thing is that i don't want to happen the same mistake again.I think i will go crazy.
Moneygram is also a wire transfer. But like you said the small problem is that you have to carry with the money in cash to their agency. But nothing wrong can happen.I used this service before and no problems at all,and it was a big amount of money then too.
You and Malcolm just let me know how you want to handle this.I will contact my brother and i can get his bank details asap so just tell me
Thanks and Best!
Robert
I know this to be true. Moneygram tell me that he's had at least one 'substantial' sum transfered to him. He'll have a few 'problems' the next time he tries to use Moneygram, though.
He's not getting off the hook. I want that bank account info so that I can get it locked out.

Bob!!!
Hello, my dear friend. Malcolm here again!
Vincent brought me a laptop so that I could 'talk' to as we finally get to the end of all this. Oh, the card that you sent me is brilliant, just brilliant! Did it take you a long time to choose it? It has birds on it, just like the Custom Single Double cut PRS. And it plays my favourite music. I'm so happy, you are such a lovely, wonderful person. I was in so much pain and feeling so low, I almost felt like I was dying. I'd reacted badly to some medicine that I was given and it was causing me to have bad dreams about driving along a road and having a terrible accident. My breathing was bad as well. But that splendid card changed all that. You obviously know that the gestures like that can make such a difference to a person. I'd love to know you properly, know what you look like. Would you send me a picture of yourself? I understand if you're a little shy and don't want to, though.
Vincent brought his lovely young lady Molly to my dying bedside, where I was running out of road and running out of breath. She was crying when she saw the state I was in, but the card really got me smiling. She thought that I'd smiled to see her cry, silly little thing. Redheads, eh? So emotional!
Anyway, back to the important thing.... MONEY!!! It's back in my account so we're ready to proceed asap!!! At last!
Vincent told me that he's pretty much made his mind up that he's rather pay you by bank transfer. I understand that you don't trust banks, but how can you possibly have the same problem twice? What he's most worried about is that he might be mugged while he's carrying your money. He is only a very small, weak man and he'd have no chance of defending himself, especially carrying 2250 pounds. It has happened once before to him, a few years ago, so it really bothers him.
Please get your brother's bank info to me as quickly as you can. Vincent said that he'll send the money to you first thing in the morning. I'm going to ask if I can pay something extra to get it transfered overnight. If I can do it, I'll pay for that myself - it's the least I can do after you sent me the card, and of course it means that I'll get the Wales Blue PRS all the quicker.
We're almost there, Bob. Very, very soon you'll receive what you so richly deserve.
Love,
Your very good friend,
Malcolm.

I decided at the last moment to ask for a picture. It's usually only the Nigerians that fall for that one, but if you don't ask the answer is 'no', eh?
He's probably reading it now: he's online, I can ping his machine.
Right, I'm off to the Richard Thompson gig. If he plays 'Vincent Black Lightning', I'm just gonna crack up. :D

Ian, this thread is without doubt one of the funniest things I've read in recent memory!! Your responses are priceless! :dude::dude::dude::dude:
As a bloke who's still involved with police training abroad (and who lived in Bristol for 4 years - damn! I wish I was there now!!) I can tell you that, overworked and under-motivated as the rozzers are these days, they will be pissing themselves with laughter as hard as I am!
I am forwarding the URL of this thread to a bunch of former members, many of whom are in England and served with various forces there. When they've finally stopped soiling their shorts, taking the nap off the carpet from rolling around and wiping their streaming eyes, I wouldn't be surprised if someone came up with a solid suggestion/contact to nail this knob.
Well done, m8!! About bloody time someone nailed these wankers!
Best, and thanks for a great laugh. After the last year, I needed that!
Ridge.
P.S. This thread should have a sticky..... damn, I'm glad I joined this group!

Ridgeback - thank you. Please spread it far and wide. I think we all appreciate what the police do: a tough job against towering odds and plenty of witless political interference. If I can deliver this clown to them, gift wrapped and with a little bow, I'll be *so* happy. I can't see it happening, though. I might have to resort to Plan B.
Actually, Plan B might be worse for him <snigger>

"Yep, and to think that a few years back that type of
information and the follow-up was CID's bread and
butter - the problem was that there were never enough
CID and some Uniformed Branch Sgt/Insp would present
you with something that he was quite capable of
dealing with himself but was far too lazy to do so!

time! Crazy world.."

A very kind BaMer has gone to a lot of trouble to check out the address that 'Bob' gave me and get some pictures. He wishes to remain anonymous, but 'BaMer secret agent', thank you very much indeed. Here's his report and pics:
Seems that address is totally bogus. The building's upper floors are all
the advertising agency. The basement is a firm of architects. I did a
quick look around the other buildings and there's no other addresses
that would seem suitable for our scammer (e.g. things like student
letting agencies etc). So I must presume he never bothers with his post.
Heres a few pictures to give you a feel for the square.
Edit: I've spoken at length to the building's owner. He's asked me to take down the pictures. He's a very nice chap and a fellow guitarist!

I haven't had much time to think about why he's suddenly decided to use a (no-doubt) fake escrow service. I hope he doesn't smell a rat, though I am wondering if his brother's account has been locked out as well.
I'll try to get him to burn some cycles by explaining escrow to Vincent; I've sent:
Hello Robert,
I do hope that you haven't problems with your brother's account as
well? I was so hoping to just get to the bank and get the transfer
done this morning. Malcolm is dying to know that the guitar has been
paid for. Will I be able to get the money sent to you today? I should have plenty of time, the only thing I have to do today is buy a righthanded ring.
I'm afraid that I've never used an escrow service so I have no idea
how it works or how to use it. It isn't complicated, is it? Perhaps
you can explain escrow to me and I'll do the transfer straight away.
best wishes always,
Vincent

I've had a good day today.
A few lines of inquiry that I've been working on seem to have born big, ripe, delicious fruit. I think that the funny stuff might be over. The knife is in, and it's starting to turn...
I was encouraged by his terse lunchtime email about the escrow service, which for some reason he's decided not to use. I guess he was hoping that one of his associates would let him use a fake one. It seems not.
Then in the late afternoon he sent me this:
hello again,
i contacted my cousin and he tell me that if i want to use your bank account i can do this.
here you have the details:
name:xxx
short code:xxx
acc number:xxx
iban:xxx
branch identifier code:xxx
bank name:xxxx
adr:xxx
city:xxx
ZIP:xxx
after you will send the money to this account email me the scanned paper of the recipt
i wait your reply
Notice the haste in his writing. There's no capitalisation; there's no chummy chat. Our pilgrim is in a big hurry. And now he wants to use his cousin's account. This must mean that his brother's account is broken. I wonder what happened to it?
Also notice that he wants a scan of the transfer paper, as is the habit of Traceys/Maxims/Sergeys and Roberts the world over.
...
Two hours later, he sent me an email from a new hotmail account. He's just recently opened it in some haste.
Hello Vincent,
Sorry for this late reply. But i have problems with my email account. My password isn't working anymore.Somebody stolled my email account. So i will contact you from here.I hope that isn't a problem.

Bob,
I just picked up your email. I was lying in bed in Finisham Hospital,
and logged onto email to see if Vincent had paid the money into your
account. I can't believe what I've read!
I've spoken to Vincent on the phone and he'll be wiring the money into
your cousin's account first thing in the morning. I feel so sorry for
you, Bob. I can hardly imagine how a person as wonderful as you can
have such bad luck!
Don't worry, my dear beloved friend. Your luck can only change!

OK, now it's getting *really* interesting.
First, I've spoken to the owner of the building who's address he gave me for the Moneygram transfer, and it seems that there's no connection.
And now the biggie: look back a few posts and you'll see that he'd been locked out of his original email account (yahoo) and was using a new one (hotmail). Well, those terse emails came from the yahoo account. I just got this from his new hotmail account:
Hi Malcolm,
Yes Mal...can you believe it?This is called bad luck.
I hope my luck can be changed...ike you said.
Anyway now the most important.
Please get in touch with Vincent and tell him that the bank details for the wire are here:
Bank's Name:xxx
Account Name:xxx
ACCOUNT NUMBER xxx
SORT CODE xxx
SWIFTBIC BARC xxx
I hope this time everything will go smoothly.
Thank you and take care!
Best!
Robert
This can only mean one thing. His original email account has been cracked and someone is trying to scam the scammer! How freaking cool is that???:dude:
I've just sent this to his hotmail account:
Hello Robert,
Vincent here. First, I must ask about your old email account. Has it
been stoled? Because I've received an email asking me to put the money
in a totally different account! I think that some criminal is trying
to rob you. I could tell by the way that he was writing that it wasn't
you, so I waited before doing the transfer into the account that he
gave me. Thank God that I did! How could someone else get into your
account details.
Let me know what's happening. Is it definately this account that you
want me to transfer the money into? It is your brother's? As soon as
you've confirmed, I'll transfer the 2250 pounds to you.
Best wishes
Vincent.

The original 'Robert' has replied:
Hi Vincent,
Yes my old email account has been stolen. Please don't contact me anymore at that email address.Somebody is using it and isn't me.I don't know how in the world he has my email account.I've sent some emails to my old address and no answer.
Yes definately someone is trying to scam us,playing with us.
Yes 100% I'm Robert(the same person who sent a get well electronic card to Malcolm) and 100% sure that those are my brother's bank details that i've sent you in my previuos message from this email account.
Thanks and please let me know as soon as it's done.

He's replied:
Dear Robert,
Malcolm here, my friend. Vincent is here with me, visiting me.
Isn't it terrible what's happened to your email account? How could
someone steal it from you, does anyone know the password? And then to
use it to try to rob us! I almost fell for it because the email names
are the same, only the service is different which isn't at all easy to
see.
Vincent was going to do the transfer this morning and I'm so, so happy
that he didn't. Imagine what it would have been like if we'd fallen
for this criminal's plot? Bah!!! I have no idea who he is, but I hate
him!!!
Vincent is leaving now. He has promised that he'll try his very, very
best to get to the bank in time to do the transfer, but he's on his
bicycle today and so he might not make it to the bank in time. He'll
have to go to his own branch, and it's a long way away. If he can make
it in time, it will be transfered very first thing in the morning, I
promise promise promise!
You know, I'm really worried that this horrible person who tried to
trick us might break into your new account. Or I might see an email
from him (using your old account) and think that it's you. Imagine how
terrible that would be? But I have an idea. Everytime the 100% 'real'
you emails me, put in the email a secret password that only you, I and
Vincent will know.
I'll send you the passwordz in a separate email. That way, you can
copy the password onto paper and then delete the email. Then put the
password at the end of every email that you send me. I use a sentence
actually, rather than one word.
OK, my next email will just have the password.

I've just sent 'Robert' this:
dear Robert,
Vincent Black-Litening here.
I'm so sorry, my friend, I missed the bank with only a couple of minutes to spare.
I'll get to the bank and do the wire for you first thing in the morning and email you to let you know that it's done.
I'd dashed out of the hospital after Malcolm read out your mail to me so that we knew that your old email account had been stolen, but I think that he told you that I was on my bicycle. I peddled so hard to try to get to town in time, but it's such hard work when your feet don't quite reach the peddles. It's like peddling on tiptoes. I even took the saddle off the bicycle, but when I sit down I don't find the experience at all pleasant (I want you to know that, so that if we ever meet, you don't get the wrong idea).
Just because I'm on 4'11'' with blonde hair and very pretty, everyone thinks I'm a girl or gay. Red Molly will tell you different, if you know what I mean ;0) She walks like John Wayne most days, a fact I'm very proud of. If she died tomorrow they'd have to bury her in a Y shaped coffin. If I died tomorrow they wouldn't be able to get the smile off my face or the lid on the coffin!
I'm sorry, Robert, I must go now. I left Molly by herself with her toy box and I forgot to charge the batteries. I think that she's about to get demanding again. She keeps saying that she wants me to buy her a 'big rampant rabbit'. Do you think she'd like this one:

Good morning Robert,
Vincent here again At last! The wire is done and the money is on its

me to try to find a scanner to email the transfer document? If so,
I'll try but I might not manage it until Sunday or Monday. I've called
Malcolm and he's absolutely thrilled. He's even more pleased because
Finisham Hospital has said that his 'roid scar has healed and he can
be let loose. I've going to collect him this faternoon, then we're
going to go out drinking to celebate his return and the purchase of
the Wales Blue PRS with body birds. This is so exciting for him, and
for me also. I can imagine that you can hardly wait to get what you
deserve? You've waited so long, it must be so frustrating for you!

Incidently, bigegolittletalent has arrived at my home this morning, bringing the guitar that 'Robert' it trying to sell to me with him. Signature #833 in Wales Blue with body birds is indahouse. 'Robert' told me that I'd "have it in my arms" very soon, and how right he was :D

Thank you and hope to read ASAP from you after the payment is done because this is a real deal and I am looking for real buyers , I do not have time to lose for games over the internet.
So, it's a 'real deal' and he's looking for 'real buyers', is he? Well, like I said, I really don't have the inclination to spend time on him, all I wanted was a trophy picture. I've sent him this:
Robert,
sorry, all I wanted was to see what you look like my friend. I really upset that you've taken this tone with me, when all I want is a little picture. No matter, I'll send the wire to you anyway. I'm sulking, though.

Malcolm has replied:
My dear Bob,
Malcolm here, my dear friend. I've just returned home from the weekend
bender with Vincent and some friends from my home village of Cockinwell We started drinking at 3pm in the Cockinwell Tavern, which was my local when I was a teenager. We seemed to spend the entire afternoon in there, trying to drink the place dry as we celebrated both me being free of another 'roid and the imminent arrival of the Wales Blue PRS Custom Single Doublecut with body birds! But I did something very, very stupid in the evening. Drunk as skunks, we decided to do the traditional thing and go for a curry. The local curry house is the world infamous 'Jewel in Indian's Passage' and is well known for it's industrial strength Phal, which is basically raw red chillies in red chilly powder, with a bit of mystery meat thrown in for good measure. I love the stuff, couldn't resist. I was so trollied that I completely forgot about the surgery I'd just had. After the curry we went to the local nightclub, The Crappt, where the DJ looked like he was about to throw up all over his CD cases he had such a bad dose of dysentry, and I don't remember getting back to my lodgings.
I woke this morning with an orchestra tuning up in my head, and then after about 30 seconds of consciousness I remembered the Phal, and was hit by the sudden realisation that what goes in must come out. Robert, if you want to know fear and pain, eat an industrial strength curry while recovering from having a 'roid ripped off! I DON'T recommend it!
I hope that Vincent can get the transfer paper scanned for you
tomorrow and I'll get him to send it to you if he can. Here's a picture that pretty much sums up me on the can this morning.
Love,
Malcolm.

Hi Ian,
Just catching up after a busy few days. Mate, this stuff is brilliant!
No word from the idle sods yet. Are you still seeing Met Fraud tomorrow?
I remain, Sir

P.S. Now seriously: whats a McRosie 10 Top w/IRW neck worth these days? US dinero?

Ridge,
It seems that I have to contact a Scotland Yard outfit called SCD6 who look after internet auction fraud. Unfortunately, the inevitable red tape has now kicked in. Because I'm reporting a 'new' crime, I can't go direct to SCD6, but instead have to open a new case and get it refered. I can just tell that this is going to be like trying to pull my own teeth :(

Malcolm has just sent him:
Hi Bob,
Malcolm here, dear boy. I just thought I'd drop you a line to ask if
your policeman friend managed to find anything out about the criminal
who stoled your first email account and tried to rob us? Did I tell
you that he emailed me again? Has he been arrested yet? I do hope so!
I hope that I don't have to talk to the police, but I will if you or
they need my help.
Has Vincent emailed the wire transfer form to you yet? I haven't heard
from him this morning and his cell phone is going straight to voice
mail. I hope so because I won't be able to chase him for the rest of the day; I'm going clay pidgeon racing.
love
Mal.

Ian, methinks your curry story might have a few shades of reality running through it! Glad to see you made it back in one piece, and thanks for your hospitality on Saturday! As for great pub names, truth is stranger than fiction; Malcolm and Vincent may frequent the fictional Cockinwell, but there is a real **** Inn not far from my old house. Very popular with girls for some reason....

Well, I finally bit the bullet and went to my local police station to report what has been going on.
I don't have the heart to recount what happened. Suffice to say that it was a struggle to get this reported as a crime at all. The desk officer, a very bright and helpful chap who was obviously doing his best in very difficult circumstances, was astonished that Manchester CID hadn't taken the info that I had and run with it.
I came out of the station almost two hours later with one definate, concrete achievement, however....
I'm now the proud owner of a Victim of Crime support booklet.

Hello Malcolm,
I've spoked this morning with my friend from police and nothing yet.Hasn't been arrested yet.I hope so too, that it will be caught soon.
But this kind of things take a little longer than it should. For the moment you don't have to talk to the police. If this will get complicated i will let you know, maybe they will need your help.
No Vincent didn't emailed me the transfer receipt.I hope he will do that today. Sorry for your currie accident. Sounds nasty.
Thanks and talk to you soon!
Best!

I few hours ago, I sent him this:
Hello Robert,
Vincent here. I have the wire with me and I'm going to start trying to
get it scanned and emailed to you. I haven't done this before, so
here's hoping....
Fingers crossed,
Vincent.

And some time later, after a bit of trouble with the internet and a lot of work from my buddy Mike (when the 'net wasn't toast) I sent him this:
Hi Robert,
Well, this took me all night, but I finally managed to get there. You know when you're getting old when it takes you all night to do what you used to do all night, eh?

Early this morning, our friend the imposter sent me this:
i wait the scanned paper with your bank recipt after the payment is done
i hope understand me. if you don`t want to send the money isn`t problem but i want to know your decision
i wait the scanned paper after the money are sended
thanks for your time
Notice the importance to him of having a copy of the transfer paper? Just like 'Tracey', isn't it? My research on this class of pond life over the months has suggested that this behaviour is almost universal. They think that if they have firm evidence that the money has been sent (and a scan of a transfer document is as good as it can get), then they can rest assured that it has indeed been sent (or is that 'sended'). The last thing that these whackjobs expect is that their 'buyer' has a stash of old wire papers from years of buying gear from Willcutts, and a good buddy who's a dab hand with paint!
I've sent him:
Hi Robert,
I sended the money yesterday and a scan of the transfer paper is
attached. The 2250 pounds should arrive be in your account sometime on
Thursday, be it can arrive at any time of the day, so check often.
Please let me know when it is in your account and I will send you the
address to send the banjo to.
Regards,
malcolm

And now back to the 'real' Robert. With all this subterfuge, the plot of 'Twelfth Night' is starting to look quite straightforward!
Malcolm has sent Robert this:
Dear Bob,
Malcolm here. Have you received the scan of the wire transfer paper
ok? Vincent told me that it took him hours to get it done. He's not
very good with computers, bless him. I hope that the image is clear
enough for you. What a lot of trouble and stress this purchase has
been to everyone. You know, once the payment arrives and I have the
11top Wales Blue PRS, you should print that transfer paper out and
frame it. I know that I'm thinking of doing the same!
Bob - check your account at the end of the day, just in case it's
arrived early. I know that it's very unlikely (these are damned banks
after all) but there's a slender chance it will. I'll be so happy when you
have your money at last. I'm sure that you will be too. Please, please
let me know whether the money is there or not. I'm so excited and
after all this effort I just can't wait for you to get what's coming
to you.
All my love,
Malcolm.

No, actually. I'm a rural Cheshire lad, Ridge. Couldn't be further from Essex. The humour is influenced by the late great Derek 'Blaster' Bates, who was a friend of my uncle's and whose comedy I grew up with.

Where in Cheshire? I was born in Knutsford.
Runcorn. Well, Halton Village, to be precise. My mum traced her part of the family back through the parish records to when they started, in the 1630s.
I knew Knutsford well. It's a beautiful place, much better than Runcorn

These two scumbags have sent me... nothing. In their sorry little world, a scanned transfer paper is as good as money in the bank.
They might be in for a bit of an education.

Ya know what would be great, if you get a response and the scammer said he has sent guitar, you should have bigegolittletalent bring over the PRS and snap some pics with it. Mess with the scammers head a bit more. :p

Two things that I'd like to note here:
1) He says that the '11 top PRS will be in my arms very soon.' Sorry, pal, it was here on Saturday :dude:
2) I checked out his email and he's added 'I FELCH FOR FUN' to his automatic email signature.
