This is a tune that I wrote several weeks ago for the purpose of a collaborative effort between myself and our own Redmax61 (who generously and skillfully supplied the bass guitar tracks, as well as the name).

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/7/adamgotchmusic.htm

I programmed all the drums in FLStudio, and recorded the guitar tracks with the neck p-up of my MIJ strat for about 85% of it. The harder-edged rhythm playing at the end was recorded with the bridge p-up of my McRosie, and the lead with the EMG 85 in the bridge of my SG Special.

I mixed and arranged the tune in Adobe Audition, using very little EQ and only some gentle limiting, BBE Sonic Maximizer, and subtle reverb. Then I really started having fun with it.

I used T-Rax to master the song. This is a very cool bit of software - it allowed me to get a really cool distorted tube and tape sound from it's compression, and I actually managed to get the track level up to -0.02 Db without clipping! Of course encoding to MP3 messed that up a bit, but I'm happy with the overall result. The vibe I was going for was a band that played classic rock with a modern vibe (and modern gear), but somehow living during the 1960's and recorded live on the equipment of the day.

I've often thought it would be great to take my PRS and rig back in time and wreak havoc with the experience of 30 more years of music, just to witness people's reactions. Maybe this is what it would sound like?

Oh - one more thing - Robin (Redmax) and I have never met face-to-face, as he's currently living on board an aircraft carrier, somewhere far far south of here. This collab was done entirely long distance, but I don't think you'd know it to listen to the tune.

Thanks for taking the time to check this out. Hope you enjoy!

I was able to DL the rough mix of the guitar and drum tracks from Soundclick a while ago. Adam had placed a pretty high quality MP3 of it on his site. I took that, converted it to .wav and imported that into FASoft n-Track, which is my main recording software.

The bass track was done with my Spector NS2000 into my SWR WM160 head and Avatar B210 cab. I actually took the signal from the DI jack on the SWR, and ran it into a Bluetube preamp, then into my M Audio Delta 1010. I think I used a little onboard compression in n-Track, but I don't remember what plug-in module I used for it. I snail-mailed the best three takes to him on a CD in the form of .wav after I dropped the resolution down from 24/48 to 16/48.

As far as the playing is concerned, Adam's tune is just plain infectious! All I did was find the groove and move into it. I was pretty much going for an 'in yer face' part with a fusion-y feel. I had an absolute blast doing the song, and I hope that we can do more of this stuff in the future. Adam has some killer riffs!

Soundclick won't let me in.:( But it's a great idea, the online collaboration!
I'm going to run the link through a few more browsers....

Aha! IE did the trick. I knew I kept in around for a reason.
Cool track!
As soon as my garage is built, I am setting up the computer for recording....

Soundclick seems to have some problems tonight. I am uploading some new songs and I got some stramge error messages...

Anyway, I LOVE the idea of trying to collaborate on something. I had the same idea a couple of days ago. Maybe some specialized websites for doing this kind of exchange already exist...
What you did Adam & Robin is really good. :dude:

I am volunteer to try something on the next project.

I like to think myself as a descent guitar player but when I listen to your playing, I am not sure anymore!! ;)

If you want to check my MP3s: Here they are (Soundclick) (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/pierremontroyalmusic.htm)

Sweet! Thanks for the feedback, guys!

Ok - we've got Peter and Pierre in on the collabs too. Who wants to start the next one? Oh, and I've got original drum loops a'plenty, so let me know if anyone needs any.

Better yet - we could get the Big Al family in on it - Mrs. Big Al on drums and our own Biggie on lead! :D :dude: :D

Great track and a great way to record! I did something similar with a guy at work, we just traded .wavs and came up with some music!

Great fun!

Amazing playing by the way!

I'd love to do an internet collaboration. I have pretty good software to add guitar tracks to an mp3 or whatever.

Feel free to take a listen to any of my stuff via the link in my signature. It will take you to my web site, which has 4 songs from my band, but there is a link for other material as well. I can play a lot of styles. Let me know if anyone is interested!

What a groove. Jimi would have been proud of that riff.

I'd love to do some stuff like that with you guys but my 'puter skills go as far as typing here on BAM. My PC would just buckle. My head is spinning thinking about it.

Well done guys.:dude: :dude: :dude:

THANKS man - first time anyone has ever compared me to Jimi in any fashion. I'm not worthy of tuning the man's guitar, but I appreciate it just the same. :D

Do you have any other means to record? Even if you had to send me the track on CD though the mail I could easily work with it.

Or I could mail you something? It worked for Robin!

Free hosting and massive .wav files don't really get along anyway. :)

You put something down on a CD.

I can put it in the line in on my newly aquired Zoom PS-04.

Would be cool.:dude:

Hey Adam,

I'm back at Big GAR for a few days, and I finally got to hear the completed version of DI. WOW!! That's really awesome!

BTW, I didn't know I could play bass that well . . .

You da man, Robin! The song came out real well, me thinks. I can't wait to do another one with you.

I'm still working on the tune with Ripcom. Actually, the muse has been a fussy b*tch these last few weeks. Popping in in the middle of the night, taking off after 20 minutes.

She likes to visit when I'm nowhere near a guitar and hassle me at work.
