This is a what-if question to see if young minds can provide answers to a question. Here's the problem:

I'm in the process of changing strings on my Strat guitar. I've just clipped the strings at the bridge too short. The strings won't shake loose from the bridge. The strings are stuck. How do I retrieve the strings?

You provide the answers, and I'll agree if your answer concurs with my answer.

I had this problem once. I just used a narrow toothpick and rammed it down through the top.

OK, how else did you retrieve the string after you used the toothpick? Let's say the toothpick helped the string further towards the bottom of the hole. What else?

Just for clarification, most string changes experienced guitarists use is to clip the string approximately at the middle coil; it gives you plenty of extra string to feed through. The question is posed for inexperienced guitarists who may not see the idea. (BTW, I might just ask this in a GP forum page)

Use the end of the clipped low E to push the ball-end out of the hole, that's what I do.

What do you do with the right hand? (I'm leading you towards the answer.)

Hold it under the block to catch the string end when it falls out. Otherwise it ends up on the floor, which means sooner or later I'll step on it and cut my foot.

Here's a good answer to Guitar Shop 101:

Tap the string from the top with a toothpick or small pointed device (carpentry finishing nail works) and pull the string back out with your right hand from under the guitar.

See? It was simpler to describe it in real terms that everybody could understand. That's why my college education was not merely a shingle that hangs on the wall. Peace.

I totally disagree. Guitar 101 is full of crap.
I poke it out with my right hand and retrieve it with my left. But then, I'm right handed.

Dan, Guitar Shop 101. Makes you look like you just got the answer, and walked away with it. Lefties? No problemo. I'll accept alternative ways if there's reason to. In your case, a lefty just means a righty the other way. No need to worry, Dan, you won't be encarcerated if you use your left hand.

Thank you. I like to think of myself as bisexual... er, I mean, ambidextrous.
I always get those confused... ;)

OK. Now go out and buy a bottle of Yoo-Hoo chocolate milk for yourself.

Remember, in organic chemistry terms dextral means "right", sinestral means "left." From history, the clergy of oldern European times considered left-handed individuals to be "touched by the Devil."

Why they said this I'm not absolutely sure, but it had to do with the fact that you were supposed to shake hands with your right hand as a show of good faith, because your right hand was the hand you used to carry your sword or weapon. If you showed your right hand, it meant you weren't secretly holding your weapon in order to do your opponent in.

Me, I prefer to think of myself as Doctor Zoiberg for now.....

Dextral means right hand?

Therefore I would have conclude that ambidextrous, literally, means "holding a frog in your right hand", which obviosuly implies you would have to use you left hand to do anything else, right?

Makes perfect sense to me.

If it looks like a green tree frog, you're safe. If it's a bullfrog, my condolences. Remember, green tree frogs "peep", bullfrogs "croak." Don't confuse the two or your chicken dinner won't taste so good. Seriously. I don't eat frog's legs (tastes like chicken!) but I could go for a nice cornish game hen once in a while...

If you listen to opera (I don't) eat a beef dinner, not chicken. If you don't listen to opera, but still enjoy reading about left-handed technique, my left hand is the hand I use a spatula to cook with, and season with.

And at the proper time, the hand I use to tap in purchases on my credit card and for bank deposits and withdrawals.

Lastly, when I can relax in my music room back at home, it's the hand that plays that funky blues, rock and jazz.

I don't use my left hand for immoral purposes, although if you turn your other hand around it feels like someone else.

Being left-handed, I must contend with being both sinister and gauche. It isn't as bad as it might seem.
I have held frogs in both my right hand and my left hand. I think that being left-handed tends to make one naturally more ambidextrous, because a lot of the world is built to be operated by the right hand. Perhaps the word ambidextrous is a bit unfair: it gives undue credit to the right-handed person with left-hand abilities. I think persons such as myself have overcome greater obstacles, so I propose the word be ambisinistrous which has a nice, snake-like sound to it. I like snakes, have a serpent inlay on my Driskill, was born in the Year of the Dragon. Everything falls into place, doesn't it? Oh, and I always felt Slytherin house were somewhat unjustly discriminated against. I mean, yes, many of them followed Voldemort, but not all. Chances are the Hat would have placed me in Slytherin.
Did this help, Dan?

Nope. Pete had pizza for lunch and pie for dessert.

I, myself had pizza after my discussion with you, Dan. Fortunately, I got over myself tonight after having a rather irrational talk with Mom. When she bakes pie, that allows me free rein to say whatever the heck I want. Solution? Don't eat pizza or eat pie.

Sorry, DF, eating frog's legs wasn't intended to offend you.

Likewise, I am left-handed, but learned to use my left fretting hand for intricate playing. And in case you don't see the other posts, eating pizza and/or pie will cause you to talk weird. Believe me.
