View Full Version : Adjusting the action on an acoustic??

The action on my acoustic is higher than I'd like. Is this a simple fix? The level at the nut is fine...I think the bridge just needs to be shaved down a tad. I'm wondering if I could just lay a piece of sand paper flat and sand down the bottom of the bridge a little at a time until it feels good.

thanks

I always buy a bone replacement and put the original away. Then I use the method you mentioned. Do a little at a time, restring, tune, and check. Repeat if needed.

Here's a link (http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/Guitar/Setup/LowerAction/loweraction01.html) to a nice step-by-step tutorial.

You need to check that the guitar is properly humidified first, then check the truss rod. Chances are that the guitar is dried out a bit which cause the top to sink a little which results in higher action

Here's a link (http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/Guitar/Setup/LowerAction/loweraction01.html) to a nice step-by-step tutorial.1st thing I did was buy a replacement, then followed the steps in the above link. Then I bought a second replacement. I went a wee bit to far with the sanding on the 1st one :o

I still have the original if I ever decide to sell.
