They tend to run a little bit more than Hot Plates. Custom Sounds (http://www.custom-sounds.com/) used to have some of the better prices on Koch gear (you need to register now to get their non-VAT prices). Other than CS, I'd suggest calling Koch dealers. I dunno what Gregory's status is these days but Music Gear Guys (http://www.musicgearguys.com) is a Koch dealer and might be able to hook you up.

Now, forgive my ignorance, but what is the difference between this and the hot plate? I know the hot plate is a speaker attenuator, and this is a power attenuator, but it seems to me that they both accomplish the same thing: low volume yumminess.

Which would be a better selection, and what would be the potential impact on sound from either unit? ( I'm just too lazy to read about both, at this moment;) ).

They do pretty much the same thing. Jerry was just asking for info about attenuators that have headphone outputs.

Thanks Alec... I didn't know KOCH made them. I thought that the Sholz model had a headphone jack on it as well, but I haven't been able to verify that. I knew that the THD didn't but I wasn't sure about other brands. The price on the KOCH seems pretty steep but it's an option...

There's a newer version of the Koch Loadbox than the one shown on the Koch site (go figure.) It's far more versatile that the previous version. I bought one from Custom Sounds back in March. Funny thing is, I just looked at the receipt to see how much I paid for it, and discovered that it was exported as a "gift" and only cost $20EUR.
