Well, I know this isn't a question about PRS guitars but I didn't want to post this on the "Guitars in General" thread .... so hear it goes...

I have a 1985 Fender MIJ Tele Custom ...

The nut needs replacing...

Can it be that difficult to replace if I buy a pre-cut nut? It does not look like it can be very difficult ...

What sort of surprises am I in for if I attempt to do it myself? i have a couple books that describe how to replace but they aassume you are going to cut the string guides and have special tools, etc. .... they say it should be done by a pro ...

What say ye ??

Do a google search for graph tech, they make several different nuts for Teles that are already slotted.

All you need is PATIENCE to get the old nut out, a small file to clean up the slot, and a little glue to secure the new nut.

And some sandpaper in case you want to lower the action at the nut end! :)

But Chiba is right... replacing the nut with a pre-cut nut is one of the easiest repairs to make on a guitar!

Yes thanks! I went to the Graph Tech web site and they do a good job showing how it is down.

Thanks a bunch!!
