Anyone tried the SD single-coil-sized rail humbuckers? I'm looking for a fatter sound out of the bridge pup and wondered what these were like.

Well I'm getting a strat built and the guy recommended I try the Hot Rails so I figured why the hell not. Can always change 'em. I just hope they're not *too* hot for more bluesy single coil tone.

Ric,

Try either of these...I like both of them....just depends on the application.

My gigging Strat has the following:

Neck - Cool Rails
Middle - Classic Stack
Bridge - Little '59

I also use push-pull pots to split the neck (volume pot) and bridge (2nd tone pot) pickups. I've found that the Classic Stack is so close to a single coil pickup, that there's really no need to split it - so, when the 1st tone pot is pulled up it will turn on the neck pickup regardless of the 5-way switch (i.e., I can get all possible pickup combinations).

So, the tone pots look like this:

Volume pot "up" - Neck pickup is split
1st tone pot "up" - Neck pickup is turned on regardless of 5-way switch setting
2nd tone pot "up" - Bridge pickup is split

This setup is very versatile (as you might imagine) tonewise.

Ive tried the JB junior, lil 59 and the hot rails. I thought all of them sounded great....exept the hot rails, which I thought sounded horrible. I think "toneless peice of crap" was the term I used at the time, but that was years ago, and I kind of like EMGs ok now, which I hated then.

I like the JB in the bridge and Dimarzio virtual vintage in the neck and middle

I have a Dimarzio Fast Track 2 in a bridge position and love it--more tone than a hot rail. The Virtual Vintage models aren't as hot but are more stratty...
I don't know if the new Bardens are as nice as the old ones.
