Pretty neat, huh? It's a Tremonti SE that was stripped and given a satin finish. I have no idea what it will be like, but I was too intrigued to not snag it. Maybe this will be the one I set up for my drop-B tuning.

Very nice. The body has a beautiful grain running though it.

I was watching that one!
If I didn't just buy an SE Singlecut I would have gone after that one. They did a nice job on it.

any scarf joints on the headstock/heel?Hard to tell from the photos, I'll have to give it a good inspection upon arrival. I think the body is at least two pieces, maybe a small third section as well. But at least the sweet switch is original. :D (previous '86 thread in-joke reference)

Totally awesome! I can't understand why PRS doesn't sell 'em that way, yours is the nicest I've seen.

That is sweet. I was thinking of doing this to my SE EG, but was curious what the wood would look like - if was going to be cheesy looking or not. There is no binding on mine, and that really sets yours off.
What does the head stock look like where the SE logo decal was? Anyone know where to get those? Is the serial number still on the back of the headstock?

I like it better without the SE logo. If I was going to put anything on it, I'd prefer to find a PRS sig logo, maybe a waterslide decal like the Fender/Gibson ones... does such a thing exist?
Obviously no serial number left. Remind me to ask the seller if he knows what year it was built... otherwise it shall remain a mystery...

Yo Scottie -
Nice snag. I was watching it, but it got outta my range at the end. You'll have to provide a tone report.
It would be a nice project to strip down an SE or two.

Makes you wonder if they have the Koreans paint them so they won't compete with the US made candy tops. I wonder if he was going to have it repainted and then saw what was under there.. kinda like finding a Salvador Dali under a garage sale Elvis painting!

thats gorgeous!!!
Youre not making my decision to refinish my SE any easier though! Its a mark 1 soapbar in the VERY rare antique white (60 worldwide, they were the very last ones!) and i cant decide wether to strip it and seal it or not?!

NOOOOOO. Use one of the bazillion red ones out there. Don't ruin that white!

.
There used to be a guy on the Bay who had some PRSi logos, but for some reason, he no longer offers them.
I wanted one when I did the re-fin on my Pearl PRS, but he couldn't round them up.
E-mail me, and I can put you in contact. Maybe you'll have better luck.

So no one has any objections to me stripping my red SE -EG then? It's one year old. There is no binding so I am thinking that if I can just tape off the fretboard and nut after removing all the hardware...
Stripping the back of the neck looks like a pain.
I don't think there is much I can do to this inexpensive guitar to decrease the value, other than actually breaking it. What cha think?

I think the next time I string change (couple of weeks) I will try some Citrustrip I have sitting around in the pickup cavity and have a look see. It's probably not strong enough, but have to start somewhere.

Just had an idea for the stripped tremonti (and mine if i do get one!),
Heat up the binding and remove it, then add your own figured maple strips if you feel up to it? Could even try the neck too but that would be a lot harder methinks!

The maple binding is just glued on for appearance?

Methinks that whole project just increased by a lot of skill.
Trust me on that one - That's a lot of work. Any purfling is hard to do.

I just picked up a Singlecut Se in the tobacco sunburst finish and I love everything but the glossy neck.
Does anyone know of any online documentation where I could learn the proper way to strip a neck and headstock?
Is it mostly sanding or is it chemical?
Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope.
Thanks,
Cam

I wouldn't use a chemical stripper .
If you just want to knock the gloss off try 800 grit sandpaper or maybe a Scotch-Brite pad.

Do you want to strip the entire neck (including the headstock)??
If you do, you COULD carefully sand with 320 - 400.
BE CAREFUL around the edges of the neck, as to not over sand.
And you want to use a Sanding block to do the headstock (as to keep right angles going well)

I want to do the whole neck from where it joins the body. Including the entire headstock front and back.
I would like to finish it off with a nice satin finish when all is said and done and then do the same to the back of the body.
Thanks,
Cam
