I've just ordered a Zoom PS-04 and it should be here sometime next week.

Anyone here got one or used one?

I'm hoping it will be just the job for getting stuff out of my head and down without much fuss. Just a doodle pad really.

Let me know what you think. I was thinking of getting one just to practice with. Thought I could lay down riff to solo over. I know it has drum and bass, but let me know if it also has a metranome.

My brother bought a PS-02 and had it for a short while. He found the drum tracks too limiting and the fx were a bit naff. He eventually sold it and picked up a Tascam PocketStudio 5 - which while similar has the ability of being able to import midi files for more variety in drum tracks.

Have no idea how much better the PS-04 is tho'.

Thanks for the link Alex. Lots of useful stuff on there.

All I got to do now is wait for the thing to turn up.

The way you discribe it sounds more and more like it'll do just what I want it too.

Thanks again.

Woo hoo it arrived this morning:dude:

Less than three days from Miami, Not too shabby at all.:)

I've got a gig tonight but should be able to get to grips with it over the weekend.

I'll post report then.

I have recorded a couple of things, just verse and chorus parts really to see how they fit together but with just one drum beat going underneath.

There is quite a bit to get used too but I've spent a good part of the weekend playing with it so I'm getting there. First I need a Smart Media Card reader/writer so I can save stuff to the PC, then I need a nother card. The 32mb card it comes with gets filled real quick so the 128mb card will be a bit more usable.

I'm off to see Toto tonight so will get round to sorting everything out later in the week. I'll also post some stuff I've done if your interested.

All I can say for now is that it does just what I wanted it to do and a lot more besides.

Does it have more than 1 input and what kind of outputs does it have besides headphones? I'm thinking if it can replace my 4 trk and Pod.

It has one input jack and one stereo line in jack.

One phones socket and one stereo output jack.

It won't do all the things a pod will do but it's the easiest 4 track I've ever used.

Finally I got round to putting up a clip of my PS-04.

This is my first attempt so it's a bit unfinished. No key change, nothing but a quick noodle.

I wanted to see how my acoustic would come out using the built in mic. So that is employed for two tracks both panned center. My CU22 was on two tracks and panned hard left and right.

Strangely entitled "First Attempt":)

Comments please.

Is this a better option than the Korg PXR-4? I am looking for smething simple to use and potable. Been considering the Tascam Portastudio 5 as well. Any advice is appreciated!

Can't coment on the Korg and have only had a very quick look over the Tascam.

The Tascam when you turn it on gives you no clue as to what happens next ( though I didn't have the benifit of a manual). The best thing I can say about this unit is that you can save in MP3 format.

The Zoom is very portable. It better be, as is doesn't come supplied with a mains adaptor). So far I have had no trouble with it, but I've not had half the time I would like to have had with it.:(
