How about the Buddy Guy and John Mayer pairing....? They really reach for creative ways to come up with an article...
"Your body is a wonderland, but I got da' blues"
No offense to Mayer, who has some guitar chops, but there is something so contrived about taking the wonderboy of POP and hooking him up with one of the masters.

Wow, near-exact picture of the Jazzmaster I'm putting together! Einziger beats me to it

Hear that sound?
That was the sound of several thousand teenagers simultaneously asking their Mom to buy them a Jazzmaster. :)

Yikes! Does that mean that my second childhood is rushing headlong into second teenhood?
Wow, thanks for the heads up Phil.
I've been wondering if we'd see any decent Incubus cover stories.... unfortunately that issue hasn't arrived as yet. :(
Is it a good article?

Being the HUGE incubus fan that I am, I'm definitely getting that. Mike Einziger's my hero.

It's pretty good and fairly in depth on the new album, the new bassist, and his experiences as a player...nothing really on the decision to move away from PRS. However, he does mention that he is not playing only Fenders on the new album, but a mixture of Fenders and Gibsons. For his amp he switched to a Vox AC-30.

Heh, considering he's now using the Fender/Gibbo/Vox combination, you can still hear his Mike E sound that he used to get from his PRS/Mesa combination.
Hey Mikey, now that you don't play your Archtop anymore, can I have it???

So I'm curious... What do the Incubus faithful think of the new album? I have Morning View and Make yourself and like them. The single I've heard a couple times on the radio really threw me for a loop, though. At first I thought it was somebody imitating Incubus, but the more I listened, the more I thought it must be them. Mike's guitar sound is pretty different, but the style is recognizable. The treatment on Brandon's voice is really different, and that's what threw me off in the first place. Does the rest of the album sound that different from the previous couple?
The album is definitely along the same vein as 'Megalomaniac'. It's full of great guitar riffs, and even solos. It's not as trippy as some of their other stuff, but it's still very much Incubus. :dude:
I love it. I can't say if it's their best album as I like all their stuff and I find myself drifting from SCIENCE, to Morning View to Make Yourself. All good stuff, and I give this album a 5 thumbs up (full marks).

I've been listening to them since S.C.I.E.N.C.E. was released, and i definitely think this album rocks. The best part about them is that none of their stuff sounds the same. They manage to achieve new sounds, and incorporate new instruments onto their albums. I cant wait to see them live this summer...

My son reported that last Saturday night Mikey made a surprise appearance at the "30 Seconds to Mars" show at the Roxy here in L.A. ...Apparently Mike joined the band for an impromptu U2 cover tune ( he didn't know which song). My son was bummed because I took him to the 30STM show on Friday in Santa Barbara and he missed the Roxy show with Mikey's appearance....

Hey Jo, another Incubus freak on the boards! Welcome Morning View!
I love the album. "Kicks his playing into high gear" is definitely accurate. I was impressed with the technicality of some of the riffs - yet their utter catchiness. Once again, Mikey reigns supreme!
Morning View is my favorite album (possibly ever), just because of where I was persoanlly when that album came out. I have to say though, we through SCIENCE on at the party last night and everybody was feeling it!
:dude:
Personally I've loved each of Incubus' albums for different reasons, but it seems like they're too concentrated on changing, and don't fully develop a lot of their ideas.
Don't get me wrong - I like to see growth in a good band. There are too many ac/dc's out there for my tastes, but Incubus' changes of sound between albums is so sporatic that it's hard to discern a natural progression of growth.
ACLOTM could have come out between Make Yourself and Morning View, and it wouldn't have seemed out of place.
Just MHO.
You know, I still haven't received this issue as yet. Should I be worried, or do you think someone stole it. :(
What month is it? April?
Pfffft

I still cannot believe Mike Enzinger is playing that damned Fender Jazzmaster. It enrages me. I think less of him as a guitarist, despite his growing talent. It's kind of like having a really sweet BMW and then getting a GM product. Sorry if I'm ranting too much about the equipment change of one guitarist. I like the new album, but had to let it "grow" on me. Brendan O'Brien does such great work!
Bottom line: why go from the Cadillac of guitars to GM?
[/rant]
Sincerely,
Layne
