Question: Something says "tune down 2 steps" and it doesn't list each string's tuning..so what do I tune my guitar to?

They're referring to tuning down two whole steps from concert E tuning. so you would tune your low E down to a C, the A down to F, etc. hope that helps.

Isn't a step equal to a semitone? So then you'd be down tuning your E to a D, A to G etc?

I'm sure a step = semi-tone. ..... I have probably asked Tyrone this question about 3 times, and I still can't remember the answer. LOL

tuning down half a step would be to Eb, no?? a whole step would be D.
2 whole steps C.

Nope 1/2 step = 1 fret

So, 1 step is tune E to D, 2 Steps would be E to C
thealexman has it right.

What happens when you're going from C to B, or F to E? Is that a half step or a whole step.

I can't belive I'm asking this.. yet again. .... aaah old age. :o

Argh, I just read my first post what was I thinking? ... I knew a half step = 1 semitone ..... it's still the B/C and E/F thing that get's me all confused.

I dunno, just tell me to tune it to C, then I'll know what you're talking about :D

GASP ... One zero zero one ... SOS (another Rush song Big Al). I will not post any more for the rest of the week.

In the instance of a half step interval (one semitone) you would still tune a full step down...so if for some reason one of your strings was tuned to "C" and you wanted to tune down a full step you would tune to (A#/Bb). Just think of keeping the relationship of the strings in parallel! E>D B>A G>F etc..

The only time this "parallel" idea doesn't work is when you do specific tunings ie: DADGAD. Even then once you tune to this you could still do DADGAD a half step down (C#,G#,C#,F#,G#,C#,) or a whole step down (CGCFGC) etc...
