Does anyone know if there is a difference in sound quality between the George L's .155 and .225 cables?

MF has em for the same price by the foot, and so does George's website. What is the difference besides thickness of the actual cable? More/less shielding?

I've been systematically upgrading my entire set-up over the last few months and now it's down to the nitty-gritty.

The next thing I'm replacing is my old Digitech RP7 with... well, just a couple of stomp boxes, which I will share info on once I make it that far. :) Right now I'm just concerned with cables.

For those interested, my latest purchases have been:

- 3 guitars: 1 strat, 1 PRS, and 1 SG Special that I stuck grovers on and popped in EMGs
- a Genz-Benz G-Flex 2/12 cab (george lynch signature cabinet). I use this as my only cab. This thing is a friggin monster and I cannot say enough good things about it. In fact, it warrants it's own thread.
- My previously mentioned Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 60 (wow. BIG tone. B I G.)

I'm getting pretty close to nirvana here - approaching the completeness of a live rig that I expect to use for years and years. :D :dude:

Sorry for the ramble.. I'm pretty happy. Anyway, about those cables.........

I noticed a slight difference at about 20', the thicker cable sounding a bit brighter. Not 50%, but call it 25% brighter.

At shorter lengths I couldn't tell any difference in sound, but the thicker cable was a lot harder to bend into the tight spaces on my pedalboard!

Hmm. It's too bad all my effects aren't in the loop - that way I could use the thinner cable for effects and use the fat one as an instrument cord.. I don't think it would do much good to run fat cable from the guitar only to choke it down between pedals before it ever gets to the amp, eh?

As it turns out, Eric Johnson uses the thin ones, so I won't stress out about it. :) Thanks for the help!

I think I bought about 15' of each to see what all the fuss was about. I didn't notice any difference between the two, but there was a more pronounced enhancement of the highs in my signal than with my regular Whirwinds.

I'll tell you what, though, the buggers twist/coil up more than any other cable I've ever had. I cut up the skinny cable and wired my pedalboard with it. The fatter cable will be used as a backup if I ever need it. For me, that last little bit of 'tone enhancement' wasn't worth having the damn thing wrap around itself and me all the time.
I had cool tone before with regular cables, so I'm happy to continue with them.

Speaking of cables, what's your thoughts on the Planet Wave cables with the internal shut-off? (used when swapping guitars, eliminates the loud popping that occurs) Did anyone ever try these? Are they very reliable? (the on/off part)
What about the Monster Cables? the Bill Lawrence cables?

I don't know. I'm generally a little leery of Planet Waves stuff - some guy at a dealership tried to sell me a set of their locking tuners, and they looked and felt incredibly cheap and flimsy. (I went somewhere else and bought Sperzels that same day.)
