Does anyone know any good sites for guitar tabs. I used to use mxtabs, but they were closed down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greg,
What the heck is a "ptp" file?
I can't open or save any of the tab files listed on the mirror site.

Greg,

- Tim*.ptp files are the 'native' file types that Powertab software saves the 'tabbed' out musical score in. Think of them like Word files. You can't open these without Microsoft Word. (Not entirely true, but it's the same idea) To open these files you have to download and install powertab software. It can be found here : http://www.download.com/Power-Tab-Editor/3000-2133-10502034.html?part=dl-PowerTabE&subj=dl&tag=button
It's a free download from C/Net(download.com)
I don't use it for 'tabbing' but simply for opening the tab files and learning tunes. It is a powerful tool for tabbing. It will even play the score, though it's sounds are somewhat limited and pretty cheesy. I usually download them and print them out from the powertab software. I've got a three-ring binder stuffed full of songs I'll likely never get around to learning. :) But I've GOT 'EM just in case!
This archive is pretty good, but the PT site was REALLY awesome before the music industry (forget the exact organization) decided that tabbed music was a violation of copyright law. I'm not even sure why this archive is 'legal' and allowed to remain. I've been collecting/saving like crazy though just in case.
Hope that helps Tim.

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/My salvation once powertabs.net and mysongbook.com shutdown. Although you have to pay $50 or whatever for it, Guitar Pro 5 with the RSE engine just kicks ass. I upgraded from GP 4, and as a bonus was able to snag the entire mysongbook GP archive (44,000+ tabs). The sad thing is I used to buy alot of tab books, but since MPA went on their witch hunt, screw 'em - I won't buy anything. Sent a "To Whom It May Concern" letter to MPA and CC'd copies to Music Dispatch, Hal Leonard, and Warner-Chappell Publishing informing them of my boycott due to MPA's guerilla tactics and the fact that 95% of the songs available on tab sites CANNOT BE PURCHASED LEGALLY because they are either out of print or have never been published. I actually received a reply from Hal Leonard - typical "we don't have any involvement in MPA's actions" form letter, but at least they took the time to respond.

FWIW, Power Tab Archive (http://www.powertabs.net/) is back up. You have to sign up now to download. But, other than that, its all the same good stuff.
