Well Summer has arrived in the Pacific Northwest! Temps in the 70's today here in Kirkland on the eastern shore of Lake Washington looking across the water at the Seattle skyline. The weekend forecast is into the 80's and no rain in sight. Its a blue sky day so my wife and I are off to lunch at Taco Del Mar in our downtown shopping village. For her two fish tacos and a Diet Coke, I could not resist the Enchilada combo with rice and beans along with a Dr. Pepper. A shared order of chips and salsa completes our meals and we are out the door for about $16.
Taco Del Mar is a small chain of fast service Mexican food restaurants. The owner at location works side by side with his team and is a very friendly guy. The three year old son of owner hangs out from time to time leaarning the biz near the cash register. The decor package is surfing style. Old surfing photos of the legends like Duke, Robert August, Greg "The Bull" Noll and others. Posters of the classic surf films of Bruce Brown, Greg McGilvery and John Serverson hang on the walls. Of course there was a nice sellection of surf boards ready to ride but not for sale. Customers drift in and out and the demographic ranges from construction workers putting up our newest boutique hotel just down the street to business types dressed for success arriving in their BMW, Lexus or MBz. The food quality is very good made better by the prices so business is steady while we are there.
We enjoyed our meal talking about the events of the week, planning our weekend bike ride up in Port Townsend and listening to surf music played over a decent audio system (Bose speakers throughout the place). I enjoyed a great meal and listened to some great music by the Ventures, Dick Dale, Surfaris, Chantays and others.
I've been trying to form surf music cover band but so far no luck finding players. If I were into Metal this is definately the place, but I'm not so my search continues.
Does anyone here have a set list with a lot of surf music or are you in a surf music cover band?
