I have a Keeley moded Ibanez tube screamer that is without a doubt the best sounding pedal in my rig. It is fab.

But I was wondering if that new Ibanez tube screamer issue is any good? Anyone tried it yet? At $169 its still more expensive than the Keeley ... hmmm ...

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

It's OK, and so is the new Maxon clone. But I'm SURE the Keely or the Analog Man modded versions are tone-superior.

I have one of the Maxon versions. I may have never played an original or anything modded by anyone. But it is an incredible OD. I've played a few other OD's and it's the BEST one I've ever tried.

I also have a Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal ... it is not all that bad either ... can be had for around $39 .... well worth the investment ....

Hey Joe (ha!), which Maxon do you have? I've heard they are based on the TS-808 and the Klon. Just wondering which you have.

FYI...Maxon should have a great overdrive since they built all of the original Ibanez Tube Screamers, including the 808's and original TS-9's. Maxon currently builds the Ibanez reissue Tube Screamers as well..

If you want a Klon-type pedal without spending $350.00 try the Maxon OD-820 Professional Overdrive....it's great for overdrive and will do and excellent clean boost also.

The unofficial word from Maxon is that they bought a Klon and sent it to Japan to be reversed-engineered.

I have the OD-808. Didn't even give the 820 a look because once I heard the Maxon 808 it was "that's it!". I used to an original Boss OD-1. The Maxon makes it sound horrible in comparison.

The TS808 reissue doesn't sound too bad but I have a few original TS808's and they sound much better to me. Is it due to the aged componants in the originals, the fact that the "modern" JRC4558 opamp isn't internally the same as the original JRC4558D, or a combination of both? Who knows? However, personally I prefer a TLO72 FET opamp or the TI RC4558 over the "modern" JRC4558D in the TS type circuit.
